Came across this tweet from the official Doctor Who twitter page with a picture of Ncuti Gatwa and a TARDIS and immediately noticed that it isn't the Arwel Wyn Jones box. Is it just a weird inaccurate replica or possibly a new prop?

(Had to slightly reduce the image in size to fit it onto the post, you can see a bigger image by viewing the tweet.)

This is just a prop box used at exhibs and cons (This is in New York)
No the Gatwa will be magnificent as will the interior set.......... 😲
Well Disney+ are ploughing money into it as well.......I Hope! 😂

I will be slightly judgemental if people flock back (not just here, but in general) to discuss/measure/etc Ncuti's Tardis (if different) when the numbers dropped noticeably for Jodie's run.
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

not sure why people would given Jodie's TARDIS exterior is one of if not the most beautiful boxes of new who for sure

Well - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I don't find it good - but I do respect the effort to get 3-stack roof (even if unrealistically proportioned compared to a typical met box). But I find it hard to forgive the piped window-glaze, the blue-lamp, the notches and the black telephone sign.

I really don't understand what you are getting at, could you be more transparent?

Agreed. It really is inexplicable that we don't have an accurate Mk II McKenzie-Trench Metropolitan Police Box replica for the show these days when Amazon can dash one off as background set dressing for their own productions that's literally more accurate than any box prop Doctor Who has ever had.

ngl im quite happy we dont have a proper police box in the show ive always thought the TARDIS only looks like its attempting to look like a police box but not quite getting it everytime i feel like it would ruin that fun if it became and actual police box , like it makes the TARDIS distinct to the police box in a way

And I completely respect your view, and indeed fully recognise I am in a minority for wanting a more authentic looking box.  People only recognise Police Boxes because of the TARDIS and therefore there is a good case to say that the TARDIS is the authentic shape, not any Met Police box.  However, the TARDIS has had so many different shapes with little attempt to explain the differences in-show (except for the occasional joke) that it is inevitable that some of us will explain all these differences with reference to the original inspirations - the met boxes.

I'm in favour of a more authentic looking box..But this isn't it...😁
Surely they now have the money to build a prop like Prime Video did last year for the "My Policeman" movie,
Which incidentally is available to stream from next Friday.....
If not so how about the  Cushing Movie style box? 😉

Agreed on both options.  Even have an episode set in the 1950s/60s where the TARDIS lands next to an original met police box -- and gets jealous.  As should/could have happened in Castrovalva.

Ive always hankered for an accurate box. Although, I do love the old original one from the sixties and seventies. (It was not until I had found my little Dinky Police Box that I knew anything was wrong!) I remember reading a long time ago and I cannot recall where that R.T. Davis had decided a simplified design would be easier for the children to draw. Which is a nice idea, seeing as they don't have Dave Gibbons drawing it anymore! I can only assume that the design of the box is to accommodate its being moved around on locations and so on, so it has to be easy for dismantling and re-assembly.
But an accurate one would be good, and I do not see why that would not be just as easy to put up and take down.

As I am sure many of us have our little projects for our own Doctor Who's in our minds or even on paper etc, I started to write a beginning to a story ages ago which had Dr. Who going up a really long ladder to a hatch in the ceiling of the console room where he tried to fix the Chameleon circuit. It didnt work, but it did give the thing a kick so when they next landed in the nineteen thirties the TARDIS had a go at accuracy and they stepped from a pale blue job just like the early ones. I thought it could go on doing this and appear as the version which fitted with each decade- even a Welsh one (and as you may have seen from my pictures) a Scottish one. It might stay in whichever version it had copied for the next few stories so we could all enjoy it in various types on various planets and settings.
The only problem with that as far as I can see is the bleddy BBC would try to pinch all the copyrights for Glasgow boxes and Welsh boxes and uncle Tom Cobbly an all! Then if we ever really did get a secretary of State who really cared about community policing, we would be frustrated in terms of getting the boxes back on the streets!

It does not really matter at all in the end, as long as it never turned into a Porta-Loo!

As someone who absolutely adores Met boxes and delves into every detail, honestly? I'm fine with them having some creative liberties with the TARDIS exterior every now and then, if only because it gives people like us more to talk about.

Elvis Gump

Doctor Who is now garbage and this TARDIS and the entire run of Chibnall is an insult to the history of the show.

This made me lose total interest in Doctor Who and finishing my TARDIS and i don't expect it will be any better with egomaniac RTD back.

I hate this box. I hate the people that made it. Garbage.

Andrew Harvey

 Dear Elvis,
Your right of course, it is rubbish these days, everybody says so (except a few...) and has been since the young idiot with a bow tie and flappy hands in my opinion, but 'hate' is a strong word we should only use for really important things, and there is all that lovely old stuff that they cannot pollute.
So, don't lose heart! its just a silly phase they are going through. Keep building, use your own imagination, and ignore what rubbish and mediocrity is on the telly these days. Its easy!
  All the best
   Andrew
