Hi everyone, was just wondering about Tony farrells`s plans and articles for the Newbury prop that was hinted at sometime ago, did this ever materialise? As someone who used his excellent plans to build mine I've been looking forward to it coming, does anyone know what happened?

Many thanks,

Moonbeam.

No idea.

Tony hasn't been active on the site for a while.

I think he's been on facebook a bit, but not much.

I hope all is well with him & he is okay.

Tony is one of those guys who you really miss when they stop being around on the site.

If anyone is still in contact with him, perhaps they could pass on my best wishes?

Thanks,

Russell

I asked for Tony's help when I was building the Newbery box in Sketchup as a reference for my hybrid box and he was kind enough to send me some of his research beyond what he made available in his thread and answer specific questions I had to make sure my measurements were all correct.

As the conversation was over Twitter DMs and he seems to have since deleted his account on there, our message history has been erased and I'm not sure if I saved those files, but I'd be happy to dig out my old hard drive and see if I can find them.

Barring that, I'm confident my model of the Newbery box is as close as possible to what Tony's finalized plans would have been and I can try to make my own plans from it in a similar style, but I wouldn't be able to make a fancy article like Tony would have done or account for any physical variations beyond the version I made a model of.

Hi Grimusaur, it's a shame we never got to see Tony's finished work on the Newbury prop, considering how well researched his articles where on the Brachacki and TYJ props was, that was really fascinating reading and I would have really struggled to have been able to build my Newbury Tardis without them. Good that he was able to help you though.

Moonbeam.

Aren't the Newbery TARDIS plans in the 1979(?) Doctor Who Technical manual.  I remember it having Dalek plans, K9 plans, Cybermen plans & TARDIS plans, and the Newbury prop was THE prop when the book was published.

Unfortunately I lost my copy many decades ago... Loved that book.

[Later edit.  Oops. That book was later than I though, 1983 - so would have been the AYJ box, sorry]

Dear Alexcutler,
I just this mi ute saw your post so having a Doctor Who Technical Manual just on the shelf near my right foot I thought I would quickly photograph the pages you are referring to for you. So, here they are.
I have not bothered with all the other characters. Just pages relevant to the Tardis. Hope they are of some use.

I must say, what a clumsy twit you are for losing your copy of this great book! I expect you can get a replacement easily enough on the good old internet!

  All the best

I love that book
Built a sonic from it.
Strangely it came out the size of a lamp post...  ;)

The above blurb says they were introduced from America in the 1800s. Was that true?

Here's what seems to be a reputable source stating such is the case.  (Second paragraph)

Basically, we bloody Yanks tried them for a bit, but they didn't prove nearly as popular as they did in the UK.  Funny enough, the bibliography on that page acknowledges the DW Tech Manual.  ???

Bill, old chap. Did you just use "DW Tech Manual" and "Reputable" in the same post?  :o  ;D  ;D
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

Well, not in the same sentence.  :-[
