They are very nice looking boxes, has anyone seen the NST for sale on the Bonhams website?  The guide price is 12,000 GBP, though I'd imagine it'd make 100,000 if their last auction was anything to go by...  Also I bought four of the original glass signs from out of one of the boxes that are currently on ebay - planning on making a TARDIS-style coffee table, with internal lighting.  Will put pics of them up later.

Great pictures starcross!

I went past the Mk3s today, Gosh, I would have much preferred the original signs I'm not sure why they would replace them?
The Pull sign looks very clean, I didn't see one on the box before the revamp - does it look like a good copy? I don't know.

and I thought I recognised the heat and light unit, I've one exactly the same in my house it's called a RIMA high light- everything in my place is original early 60's (apart from me, of course).

p.s. Spookily there is a nasty looking crack on the side on the box ?!?

Does anyone want to tell them that it is "Urgent Calls"? ;)

Ha ha, the missing 's' in calls - Well spotted teppic!
Arial Black,Bill, I wondered if the sign was a piece of fiction.
And they've replaced the door so no St John badge  :(
such a shame

How can they be called replicas when the font is so wrong?

I've seen it, and have been trying to hit the lottery ever since just to have a shot at her! Tomorrow is my last shot at a hit before the auction, and a huge lottery win is what I think I'll need. I remember when Paramount auctioned off most of their "Trek" props. They estimated the ENTERPRISE-D filming model (the 6-footer and the better model, not the original pilot 10-footer they crashed in "Generation") would go for about 20k (USD) or so. When the hammer fell the proud owner had a 500k (yes; half-a mil, USD) bill on his hands. (I saw the guy when the news crew interviewed him... what one might stereotype as a single, middle-aged fan boy, who had an understandably-frightened smile on his face as he said, in a high-pitched voice of the aforementioned stereotype, "Now all I have to do is figure out how I'm gonna pay for it." You don't want me to describe what his following laugh sounded like!)

So, if the bidding is just as hot for this lovely lady (who is flat-packed and ready to go), I can foresee her price tag far exceeding that 12k GBP estimate.

COME ON LOTTERY! PLEASE DON'T FAIL ME NOW!

Just for those who are curious about such details and that includes me  :) - Ive come up with a little info about the key and lock found on one of these boxes. The key and barrel of the rim lock was made by the Century lock company set up by Humphrey and John Fox, whose initials can be seen on the key (lower right). And indeed yes the actual rim lock on the back of the door is the more familar ETAS lock also made in Willenhall, Wolverhampton - which was just down the road from the Centuary lock company.

Well, sadly, the lottery did fail me and I was in no position to even think about bidding on that magnificent box.

Has anyone heard what she went for?

The original 2005 Tardis Prop sold for £10 800 inclusive of Buyer's Premium.

Someone is extremely happy I imagine, perhaps they will show up here one day to share information?

So it's a Century lock outside and an ETAS inside - I wonder what that says? - that the lock was changed for some reason, or that by this stage Century and ETAS were used interchangeably? Whitestar - did you get a good look at the key - and thus see whether the key was cut to fit a standard Met box? This would settle the point (arguably!).

Well the keys for these kind of locks only works in the outside part which is where all the tumblers are, once the key turns it turns a rod that fits in a slot in the back part of the lock that slides the bolt back.  So provided the rod is the same shape, which in all likely hood it would be, switching the outer or inner would be simple enough.

I'm sooooooo jealous of whoever bought that prop - I just hope that it sees the light of day again, maybe do a bit of touring at conventions - too many props disappear, never to be seen again.

Indeed that would certainly settle the point if the cut were the same. Unfortunately the actual images of the lock/key are taken from  Flicker and sadly I haven't seen either in the flesh. I simply manipulated the image on the lock to identify the Century brand and then did a little seaching for info on the company. Best guess is I suppose that the original barrel on the ETAS lock became damaged somehow and it was simply replaced with whatever was to hand, although of course if the new key cut was not of the standard Met police box cut that would mean all officers in that area would then need two keys so they could access all possible boxes.
