It's just a bit worrying that when the evidence is so clearly there, the museum is happy to be effectively lying to the visitors. I am all in favour of having replicas when the originals are lost or too fragile, as long as they say as much. It's the same with the Sixth Doctor's coat on display there. Whilst all the staff will tell you that it is the original, it is very clearly one of the Cloth Ears reproductions.

The 1st and 8th Doctors' costumes are also replicas, and not very accurate ones at that. But let's not derail this thread too far. (Adjusting drift compensators back to Classic Sonic Screwdrivers.)

I know this research was a very long time ago now but i've just come across it again as I've gotten into the Sonic prop history again. Great stuff as always from Purple! One thing to note is that the prop with the spinning mirror in Curse of Peladon was totally different to the Sonic prop. Also the 'Barber pole' regular Sonic prop predates the item in Curse of Peladon as it first appeared in Colony in Space.
I'm trying to find raw sound files for the Sonic sounds in the pertwee era as I'd like to add them to a replica if I can. Specifically looking for the Land mine detection and detonation from the Sea devils and the Marsh gas detonation sounds from Carnival. Always thought it was ashame CO didn't make the toy with accurate sounds to the Pertwee era.

Never noticed before that the Peladon spinning-mirror thingy has a clip on the handle- and, yes, it is completely different to the sonic.
I know that the mine detection and detonation sounds are just two of the many sounds the Wand Company 10th Doctor Sonic has, so they must be available somewhere.

I did some research on this device.
It's a automotive adjustable penlight.
I don't know what specific model it is, but you could modifie a new one to look similar.
I know it's on of these, because in a certain scene the Doc spins the mirror & the rod bends.

I completely forgot the wand company 10 has those sounds. I have one of those but unfortunately the battery is kaput, but yes this means the sounds must be out there somewhere :)

Elkad, that's really interesting and great research about the Peladon spinny thing. I've got back into props, specifically Pertwee Props, as I'm building up a few close to accurate Pertwee cosplays as he's my favourite Doctor. It would be nice to have a few more gadgets and gizmos to go with the cosplays.

Thank you both!

I thought of making a automotive penlight hypnotizing thingy. I did a little more research & found the specific tube used for the neck of the penlight is called "Stainless Steel Gooseneck Tubing".
Anyone have a guess on the thickness of the tube?
