Wow!!
Have you been stealth building?

We don't see anything for ages & now you spring this little pic on us!!

Looks like great work, Dave.

I'm so pleased work is still progressing on this box.

I just watched the movie a couple of days ago on my marathon watch through & that box is one of the best things about the film.

Now, I'm not going to have to go up there & stand over you with a whip to get more updates, am I?!  ;)   ;D

Best regards,

Russell

HA! That would certainly have got the box done sooner Russ!

The box was about 75% complete way back in 2015, but having two kids and house moves put a stop to progress for years, until last year. Since, the remaining has been completed:

*doors
*all windows
*base (still needs the angled edge)
*roof
*top light (our own Bren Carter helped me with this one)
*sign boxes

Some little snippets...

Once its all together, I plan to finish this "build diary" and then post the final finished pictures :)

Oh, and some sort of idea I had for the attachment of posts to base.

These metal brackets were given to me by my father in law over 8 years ago, always had plans for them, I didn't know at the time it would be this... or did I?  8)

They slot in nicely in the bottom of the posts, through a little routed channel

I always get a kick out of a build based on a particular box, where the builder has paid attention to the details.  There are a lot of things that say "Hudolin" to me, but I always forget how distinctive and recognizable "POLICE BOX" signs are.  I'm kind of locked into "Big deal.  It's a san serif all caps sign.  You've seen one, you've seen them all."  Then I see a nice Hudolin or NST and go "Oh.  Yeah.  The right font DOES make a big difference."
"My dear Litefoot, I've got a lantern and a pair of waders, and possibly the most fearsome piece of hand artillery in all England. What could possibly go wrong?"

Precisely, this is what irritates my inner rivet-counter about some builds BUT that isn't disrespect at the time and effort gone into their build.

I will admit, there are some accuracy elements I've had to drop on this build out of either laziness or sheer inability to spot them soon enough and it'll be too much time/money to fix.

But given this is year 6 I've been on this build, maybe the time factor doesn't matter so much!

Took this one awhile ago now but here's me attempting to build the lintels. Plan is to use threaded inserts and this is a connecting bar. The signboxes will slide or sit on top and connect in a similar fashion.

So something that isn't often spoken about, probably because builds that take awhile to do the numbers aren't usually kept for reference, but I wanted to share where I'm at budget wise with my build.

Obviously this isn't the full list of purchases you're seeing, but here's where I am with the spending of this build. I'm on the 6th year so far and more than likely don't have too many drastic purchases to make, right now its just getting on with the remainder of the build, so this number is pretty much static now.

This isn't an idealised list of the project, there are purchases of wood or materials that were scraped because of mistakes, bare all approach here!

If when I'm done, others are interested in the full list of materials I'll happily share it.

Your doing way better than me, my spreadsheet is at £1438.87 without paint or glass.

Nice! Going on what I remember it looking like before the images went missing, it's a very good replica - and still a bargain!

It is. Bit rough round the edges, his reproductions since are much cleaner, but it serves its purpose for me. I'll drop an update on that as soon as I've painted it up actually. The surrounding enclosure I mean, not painting up the fresnel lol.
