invaluable reference pics for the mark3. Love the coat hooks - shame the table is missing in the interior shots, but you can see the supports where it would have been. Also interesting to see different door handle types.

About a million years ago, when Doctor Who Weekly started, there was an article in that very magazine about the POLICE BOX, which mentioned, in passing, a retired copper that bought five of 'em for £10 each when they were scrapped, with the rationale that 'Those Americans will buy anything!'

I wonder if it was true...

Oh, I remember that article - 'The Death of the Tardis'. I'd guess that they were police posts rather than boxes, if there was any truth in it.

I passed the Mk3's today and they've painted one blue!
nice to see that in true TARDIS builder style the left the ladder in front of it  :)

They may have discovered a need to patch a spot after they painted it, but haven't gotten 'round to repainting that bit.

Hello everyone,

Its been a while for these boxes, so its time for an update. At least one box has been restored and painted up.
One box has had at least the exterior completed. It included a new set of paint inside and out, but also new top signs,
and a new telephone sign.

The Original Signs in the Mark 3 boxes have been sold off separately. However replica perspex signs can be bought in their shop now.

The Price for the boxes has increased I think. It was 12,000 in the beginning, but now is as high as 18,000! Its starting to seem like the only pictures we may see of this Box are from the reclamation yard. I'd still like to see it end up in a museum like Avoncroft or the Kent Police Museum.
Only time will tell where they will end up however.

Here is a question, can anyone identify the lighting fixture used in these boxes?
As far as I know the Mark 2s and the Glasgow boxes had used a pendant hanging Bayonet light socket.
This looks much more modern so it may still be around and in use somewhere.

Also on the subject of the hardware; I noticed from the photos that the window latch is also used to hold the first air section of the cabinet closed as well. I know in one thread or another this latch has been identified. Not sure if the window hingest themselves had been however.

Cheers.

That almost loks like one of those ceiling lights that has the heater built in (usually around the outside of the unit with the bulb in the middle)

Just curious, but what are they asking for the replica signs?

According to their website:
"APPROX DIMENSIONS:
LENGTH: 30" INCHES (765mm)
HEIGHT: 4" INCHES (100mm)
THICKNESS: 50mm

PRICE: £35.00 EACH
UK MAINLAND DELIVERY £8.00
Some uk postcodes may incur a small delivery surcharge.
Worldwide delivery service also available. "

Although I think they mean the thickness is 5mm or 3/16" because a 5cm thick sign would be a bit much I think.

The replica signs are actually well done, however I find the font a bit chunky compared with the originals. However only people who have had their own signs made up can say if £35 is reasonable for the quality.

Given that these are accurate for real police boxes, they would probably be unsuitable for most of the Tardis replicas I think.

Well spotted! That is exactly what it appears to be, a light heater unit.
I had never seen one before so I thought it might have been a circular florescent.
However a bit of research and I turned up a nearly identical modern unit.

It is a Goldair Light & Heat unit, if you look at the Police box unit the heater coil is just visible in white.

my signs were about $80 US and the perspex was another $60 or so i think so 35 quid each isnt bad if you dont want to take the hassle and make you own.
