Could someone out there who has screen capture software and a copy of The Five Doctors DVD please get us an image of the Time Column in its 'up' position which is seen in full side view right after the TARDIS lands on Gallifrey? Much appreciated... Tom

Thanks kry10, but that's not it... at 15:44 on the Special Edition VHS, there is a side-on close-up of the column in the up position. BTW I reset the timer just before Hartnell comes on in the prologue.

Thanks mate, Tom

Not quite full side view, but closest I can find of the full "up" position. See the gallery at http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b274/davidharper/console%20mark%20V/ for more, including closeups of controls etc (may have already mentioned it but cannot remember)

There are 4 white tube lights and 4 red tube lights.  If you look down on the column in plan view, the white ones are at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock, the red ones are positioned in the spaces left behind, 1:30, 4:30, 7:30 and 10:30.

Hope that helps you.

This was my original file size, but photobucket shrunk it for being a png originally. It is now a jpg and larger.

It is still in my opinion a little small, but hopefully this one should be better than the last.

I figured this would be a photo of significant interest, taken at the BBC's Visual Effects Department in Acton, it may be one of the few, of not the only photograph to show the full height of the Time Rotor without the surrounding console panels:

I've started this thread to provoke some conversation over the design and implementation of the time rotor lift mechanism. Although my own time rotor mech works quite well, I'm keen to see how the original prop's mechanism was designed in order to provide members with the "definitive season 21-26 time rotor mechanism" which, of course, would be transferable across all classic series consoles. Below are a few images, one of which Warmcanofcoke posted in another thread recently, as well as a couple of other images found on this site in previous years. Credit goes to all of the respective owners of the images.

Good idea for a topic. Can I just ask that people discuss the original here in the Reference Section, and any discussion of designs and mechanisms for replicas in the http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?board=30. It's important that we keep information about the props we're trying to replicate separate from our own efforts - so much so that they have entirely distinct top-level categories on the forum. Of course the workshop is for Q&A, tutorials and discussions; if you actually build one, that goes in the http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?board=7.0 board. It's important that we don't mingle discussion of our own builds either.

Thanks,
Crispin

No problem, Scarfwearer. Perhaps if and when we get any reference pics of the rotor mechanism in this section, then we can start a new thread in the workshop section with drawings, discussion, etc. :)

Can I be the first to suggest that the time rotor appears to be guided by 2 vertical runners, either side of the rotating arm that raises and lowers it? There doesn't seem to be any other supports for it, its very empty inside. The silver panel seems to be a guard to stop the rotating arm mangling the power lines to the rotor, though it seems to be missing in the latest photos... I used this vertical support arrangement on my model and it works great!

If I was at my pc I'd highlight this on the pic... Anybody else agree? It's not like the exhibition consoles with the castors guiding the rotor casing IMHO.
Build high for happiness :)
