Ok, I'm building a life size tardis.
I don't know how or why I ended up actually doing this, it was always just an idea in my head, but now I get a crack at it for real!

I spent a week drawing up plans which were always scruffy but they made sense enough to follow, although I ended up completely scrapping them since B&Q seem to take enjoyment out of the fact that the wood they had in stock HAD to be mere millimeters off what I was going for  :'( and along with this the hardboard available which I planned to use as backing for the panels was sadly too small, so my tardis had to be midgetified to a mere 6'1" on the sides  ::)

Anyway, despite trials and tribulations, I managed to get cracking with the first side. Standing back and looking at our handiwork, me and my father suddenly realized that the window panels and the bottom panels were shorter than the middle panel layers.. oh well!! This side is going against the wall anyway, so all should be fine.

For some reason, B&M had the exact paint we needed, both undercoat and overcoat, yet homebase didn't.. I don't think I should doubt stores when they say they have everything.   ;D

Anyway, next up on the plate is the doors, base and the rest of the sides!

A good start :)

Looking forward to seeing more!

Update!

This week I've been beached at home, due to praxeus, and unfortunately haven't been able to do any work on the woodworking aspect of my tardis, although I have been preparing and planning things like the lock and the lamp, and also assisting my dad with his plans and my expert tardis knowledge (is that something I should be proud of..?).

I ordered a lock (finally!) which unfortunately had to be narrow since my midgetified tardis' middle section is slightly too thin to support a 60mm backset (and it would look weird!) so I had to settle for a 40mm, which shouldn't be an issue since the cylinder looks identical and I'm not really going to be inside the tardis so much that I notice the lock's squished shape..

I also made 3 rough concept models of my lamp, which went okay.. all I had was a jar and cardboard, but it still provided a rough guide for my lamp in the future (1st and 3rd models

Should be able to update soon!

Glad you are still able to get some work done during the lockdown.

Yeah, they were really big for some reason and I wanted to get rid of two I didn't need but for some reason it made them all vanish.. I'll try and put them back up soon  ;D

(EDIT) Done!

Small update!

Made a diagram of what i think the upper section will look like- i used the measurements from my side already built (divided by 10 so it fit) and drew up a concept (ON POWERPOINT!  :o)

Hope to get more updates in asap!

You can actually do surprisingly robust things on PowerPoint.  I've done TARDIS designs (especially handy because you can make all your dimensional lumber and then just copy+paste as many 1x4s--or whatever--as you need; helps with calculating how much lumber you need too) and Star Trek starships.  I've seen pages where artists have done incredibly detailed paintings in PowerPoint.  Looks like you're on the right track.

Yeah - it's the ability to input your actual measurements (even if downscaled by 10) that makes it so useful, because i know that the side i have and the side on here are the same - so i can easily get to work planning the rest.  ;D

Oh christ, this really didn't age well did it..

That was almost a year ago! Wow, how time flies!

Since then I've got a 3D printer and I've just sort of stopped doing the project for COVID reasons mainly and some other reasons.

I'd love to continue at some point but may wait till this summer, since that's the best time to do stuff like painting.

I've been very bloody busy with my printer though. Doing lots of modelling. Do let me know if you would like to see, I can maybe post some things in the Virtual Workshop!

Cheers

I feel you.  Even throwing 'rona limitations out the window, right now I've got so much stuff that any new Who isn't even on the back burner.  It's way down the counter, waiting to get on the back burner.  Repairing my TARDIS is on the back burner.  (I moved, and moving a 10+ year old outdoor TARDIS causes some structural issues.  (It was like the last jump of the Battlestar Galactica.)

Yeah, my TARDIS is waiting for the back burner man to recover from hopsital and actually build the back burner before it can go on. Mainly because of weather and just not being that bothered.

I'd rather just not do the TARDIS than make compromises on it, as my dad suggested doing a half TARDIS (which would look wacky in my opinion)

Anyway, I've got some Sonic replicas coming in April, a Colony Cream Aztec from The Sonic Compendium and a Season 10-11 Pertwee Sonic. Very excited for those, may post them in the gadget gallery! ;)

But yeah, I'm very enthralled with my printer right now and i'm having lots of fun modelling on Fusion 360 Education License.

Making a 4th Doctor Logopolis display at the moment.

Cheers.
