Bought a wind- up camping light last night in lidl - 9 quid . Easy to dismantle and am in process of extending wiring switch and handle to interior of my build. Not exact but a pretty good option I reckon.

With a lick of blue paint I think that lamp will work out just fine. After all, many of our members have personalized their TARDISes in one way or another: some subtle, as in a different lamp; some really stand-out-ish, such as the TARDIS mobius is building. So your lamp is just your personal touch and no one can tell you you're wrong. Besides, in time if you happen to run across a proper lamp, you can always upgrade if you've got the money on hand.

Incidentally, which style of lamp were you looking for? With all of the eyes on this Forum, we might be able to find something more suitable to your liking and have it be in your price range.
