Has anyone ever attempted a Rani Console? I seem to remember one of her stories you saw inside her TARDIS which was pretty cool from memory.  Any pix of that around the place?

There are some pictures of the Rani's console on Steve Hill's site. At the very bottom of the TARDIS Images Page there are 5 quite reasonable screen shots.
I gather Steve is happy for the images to be copied, but not hot-linked. So here's a copy:

I always thought the Master could have had that console - it's much more his style. The Rani's could have evoked more of the scientist in her: more glass and pipes and organic stuff, and maybe unspeakable green things in the mechanism. In a word - the 2005 console... :)

I agree that it could have been more organic feeling for the Rani.  I tired to design a console for her once that had that feeling, lots of tube full of strnage liquids etc.   Looked good on paper, but highly unfeasible to even try to make a model of.

I love The Rani's console (but not her TARDIS exterior as much). It does makes me think I'd like to get into console building.

For some reason that picture also makes me think 'General Zod's living room'

Same here  ;)

Whatever happened to that console anyway? It must have been a fairly expensive prop for its 5 minutes of screen time... anybody?  ??? T

Me too, but I do like the exterior... That is the exterior from Mark of the Rani (Not overly keen on that pyramid thing). I always thought the blue box with the 2 lights on the sides would make a great wardrobe... Which do you not like, or was it both you don't like?

Haha It does rather smack of the 80's with the grey patterned walls! lol :)

Gah! But of course! Why did nobody think of that before? ;)

To be honest, I don't know where it is now - though I seem to recall it was still in existence in or around 1990**.  What I do know is that once Mark of the Rani had been finished, there was a "Retain for future use" notice stuck to both the console and her TARDIS exterior prop - but as we all know, these items didn't appear in her next story, Time and the Rani.

Also, given that it was the redressed Doctor's console used in Dimensions in Time for her console, this says to me that probably her original console prop was junked after all.

**What I'm probably thinking of here is the Silver Nemesis Cyberscope - that certainly does still exist, albeit in a rather poor state.

EDIT

As for the configuration of the panels, it followed the 5 Doctors console route, two repeated panels; one with three sticky outy circles and one with a large sticky inny circle (technical terms those).  I have a feeling that the upper sections were vac formed, the plinth was wooden and the top "rotor" was sat on a wooden frame with aluminium tracks... you can also see the three motor housings that turn the rotor too.

why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Those almost look like Dalek bumps around the console's edge.

From those pictures I notice the suspended light source harking back to the original Hartnell Console room sort of.

Thought I'd add some reference photos from the DVD:)

... which was, i think i'm right in saying, set dressing borrowed from Top of the Pops!

(not the only story from that era to borrow TOTP stock set items - The Two Doctors also saw a set on loan... the space station super structure was a condensed version of of one of the performance stages from the show)

I always liked this console. It's very high tech looking and very classy. I don't think it would suite the Doctor, but it is a brilliant design. It's actually funny how cheaper consoles (in the classic series) look more futuristic. This is a perfect example, make molds for two panels and reusing plus the minimalistic design meant it wasn't as expensive as the older consoles. The same thing goes for the Five Doctors console... it looks brilliant, and more high tech than the others, but realistically it was easier to make and less expensive than the previous consoles... and much easier to repair.
