so, i'm starting  this thread
because while looking for refrences, i fell on a couple behind the scenes snipets. I'm always baffeled to to see how thoses props can be abused on filming (it got better in the new series, but there are still signs of miss handeling sometimes, mostly for the lamps (looking at you capaldi times))

I'm not baffled - the BBC is very rough with its scenery. As far as I'm aware, there was no standing sets in the dedicated studio's like you have these days. Sets had to be erected and dismantled for each production.

The same goes for the TARDIS prop's...

And its not like they had more than one of them for use at a time until around 1983 (although I still subscribe to the thought that because the TJY was essentially "mix-and-match" there was really a collection of parts, rather than two (or more) boxes...

Its no wonder they got wrecked. The first TYJ was up and down so many times it was already getting distressed by Full Circle!

Those boxes were so rickety, I'd be worried about going inside in case the roof fell in on me, like the Brachacki did on poor Liz Sladen!

I'm not surprised either, i know filming production that cheap don't look out much for their prop and scenery. And at the time, doctor who was really given à couple of red pebles and that's it. You can see in the clips who's moving and operating the props, it was basicly any one in the set as oppose to à more modern/more well funded prod, where you have prop manager and scribe who's work is to look after thoses détails to i sure filming and continuité.

But still, caughting the treatment, réd handed, it's still à bit of a shame to see. And this problèm asn't really desapear. When i see people pulling their hair out over the Tennant/ecleston's prop's lamp, or the capaldi one. I think that's the main reason i create this thread.
So people can see how it works and understand that thoses props needs a chronologie if you're looking for extrem acuracy, i guess

looking again at some series 12, i notice the tardis leans a bit on the sides, not  realy any cocistance on wich side it will lean btw. i'm getting woried of more misshandeling again. still not as sever as classic who yet

The TARDIS being moved during location shooting for Time and the Rani - briefly includes footage of a deleted shot for part four being set up where you can see the underside of the base a bit clearer.

Thinking in movie terms of making Tardis disappear & reappear. You have to have a way of taking the prop away with the lease disturbance of the scene. Flatten grass or scratched up ground can ruin the illusion of travel.
The possible ways in doing this, make the prop light weight to carry away, easily disassembled to take off the scene piece by piece, easily removable by the means of a trolley, crane or "decent fork lift."

I wish it was going to be that easy to tilt mine...

And that's where they messed up.

As transmitted the TARDIS appears abruptly rather than materialising as intended as they noticeably shifted quite a few rocks around the box.
