Looks brilliant in the snow. Do you get any maintenance issues from the snow on the roof?

When you actually own an outdoor box, you appreciate the beauty of that shot--but also worry about that much moisture, working on finding its way into the cracks and crannies, and doing its worst.

This is a fear. The box is 10 years old now, and the moisture has played havoc with it over the years.

I don't have any issues with the roof, but the joints can be a problem.

Also ventilation is the key. One of the things I've learned is that ventilation is the key with these. Every year I'm have to treat small patches of rot on the left hand face of the box, because I sited it too close to the tree. I thought I'd left enough space between the tree and the box when I built it; however the geography is such that the tree actually shields the box from most of the wind, meaning that all of the other three faces get enough air movement to dry out but the left side doesn't. consequently I have four small patches of rot to deal with when it gets a little warmer situated a top corners of the recessed panels.

And the lamp needs replacing (I have a fresh one on my workbench in pieces at the moment...)

Those snow shots ARE beautiful!

But, much like Russell, I tend to see the absurdity in things.  With that thorough covering of white, the box looks that much more like a "porta' potty", the ones with the translucent white roofs (to allow for better lighting).

What are they called in the UK, anyway? A "Lug-a-Loo"?  ;-)

Funny.  After seeing this pic we got a significant snow last night.  Too dark for pics at the time but I'll try to get some before it melts too much.  They *do* look nice in the snow.
