Dang, I keep forgetting it but that's a nice K-9.  OOH!  You can do a death battle between K-9 and Mister Sinn!  He's cunning and malevolent, but I don't think the pig-faced, pig-brained Peking Homunculus will go 1 round against the tin dog.

David, It's great, actually... exactly like the real thing... but I don't want to end up back in the stocks!!

Volpone: K-9 would definitely kick Sin's ass in a straight fight, but I suspect Sin is sneakier...
They have an uneasy truce at the moment.

Morning, all!

So, I'm not going to be doing anything for "Nightmare of Eden."

I don't particularly have anything against the adventure, but there's not really any costumes in the series that excite me to get to work.

I think part of my problem is that the show can't really get it's tone right.
It swings from broad (& not very good) comedy to a serious plot involving a drug so hideous it destroys whole planets!!
It can't really decide what it wants to be.

However, it is significant cosplay-wise for a couple of reasons, which I'm going to include here for research & completion reasons:

Firstly, Tom takes his coat off to tackle some engineering work, so we get a good look at the green/brown/gold paisley waistcoat that debuted in "Power of Kroll"



So if you're trying to replicate this waistcoat, this is the adventure to watch, pause button at the ready...

The second item of significance is when Tom is attacked by the Mandrells & his coat is shredded.
I pinched these pics from Steve Ricks' site:



The first thing that struck me about this scene was how upset I was that such a beautiful coat was destroyed for such a throw away comedy scene. (I was equally upset when Peter Davison unraveled Tom's scarf!!)

Next, I thought the scene was played far too broadly & I really struggled to maintain my suspension of disbelief! I bet it was a Tom ad lib that really should have hit the cutting room floor!

Finally, I thought it intriguing that Tom wore his new beige coat for all of season 17, right up to "NOE" when he switched to his dark brown coat. Why? Was it because he knew the coat was going to be destroyed & he didn't want his favourite coat ripped up?
He was back in his beige coat in "Horns of Nimon", but, then in "Shada" he was back in his brown coat!
So, firstly, there must have been a duplicate brown coat (for stunts?) but then, why change back?

This probably seems very trivial to some, but this is the kind of stuff that keeps me awake at night, guys!!

If anyone has an opinion, or can throw any light on the great Tom Baker coat controversy, I'd love to hear. 

Anyway, the next adventure is "Horns of Nimon", an adventure that takes "pantomime" up to eleven!

I always fancied stomping around as a Nimon, so I think I'll have a go at that one!!

Haven't seen Nightmare of Eden for ages, like you mention could never make my mind up about it, so it might be time for a rewatch, it's from an odd period really, Tom could go from being brilliant to then almost sending it up. Yet your watching horns of Nimon next which is mega over the top and I watched that recently and loved it!

I forgot that the paisley waistcoat got ripped in half in "Full Circle"...
They loved ripping up old costumes, didn't they?
Maybe the wardrobe dept was running out of room...

I managed to get down to my training hall to do a security check.
Needs a good clean after being empty for many weeks, but all still in one piece...

Gave me a chance to look over my TARDIS.
It's still holding together.
Lots of minor jobs need doing, but it's structurally sound & there's no leaks. 

It also gave me the opportunity to do my first photo for "Horns of Nimon." 

I keep talking about photos that give a real nostalgic buzz & this is one of those pictures that always catapults me right back to rainy Saturday afternoons in the 70's.

Fuzzy, happy  memories of simpler times...

The first thing that is very obvious, is how much shorter the Newberry is to the Hudolin, plus how much shorter I am than Tom Baker!!

Still, I loved the chance to get into costume & take some pics with my beloved TARDIS!

I was wandering around Youtube last night & I came across a channel called "Epic Cardboard Props."
You should check this guy out.
He makes Epic cardboard props (d'uh!) of Predator & Terminator heads, Star Wars stuff, guns, dinosaur heads. You name it!

He is awesome! His skills are off the chart & he reveals me as the amateur that I am!

I am voraciously drinking from his cup of knowledge & plan to use some of his techniques when making my Nimon head!

I never think of myself as amazingly tall, at 6ft exactly. But it's amazing how much difference those extra 3 inches make. Both Tom and Jon were 6ft3 (according to a very quick google search). I say "were", because I assume that's at their prime, not at Tom's current age.

It's my pride & joy. 

Jon & Tom did stride across the screen like titans, which was very reassuring for us kiddies watching at the time, but it did make them seem invincible sometimes, which did reduce the tension.

Part of Pat's appeal was that he was quite short,so monsters like the Cybermen or Ice Warriors really towered over him & were very intimidating, which made it even more impressive when he defeated them!!

I started on my Nimon costume today, beginning with the head.

I'm making a frame out of cardboard, then I'm going to papier machete over it.



Looks a bit like a roboman helmet in this one:



Now I look like Hannibal Lecter, or like a poor inmate at Bedlam!



Got to stop now because I have to cook dinner & I don't want to get into trouble, 
but hopefully I'll get some more done tomorrow...
