Well that's Ronnie Barker who was a comedy actor famous in the 70s and 80s.
It could be a sketch from a programme called "The Two Ronnie's"?

It is! It's from a segment in the 1984 Christmas Special. There's a low-quality copy of the sequence on YouTube;

"I be Doctor Who, that's who I be!"

Thank you Mark and Will  ;)

is this the Yardley Jones Box - Mk 1 (refurb) or Mk 2?
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

The presence of three hinges on the doors would suggest that this is the prop built for "Planet of Fire". (The thick-framed "ALL CALLS" version of the phone panel would point to the earlier version of the prop as seen in "Kinda" onwards however, we know the phone panels were detachable, so the phone panel proves nothing.) I've looked at the video to see if the damaged post-cap - characteristic of the Mark 1 (refurbished) box - is visible but the definition is too poor to be certain.

Given the proximity of the recording dates of the Two Ronnies Xmas Special and the two closing stories of the Davison era, also given that the Two Ronnies photo shows that the Tardis is in good condition (with three hinges per door), I think the balance of probabilities is that the Two Ronnies used the Mark 2 box.

Thank you Tony I really appreciate your input and identification of this TYJ.
If someone finds a reference or remembers an appearance of a TARDIS on television or elsewhere please keep me informed.
;D

Cheers,
Nate

Christmas specials were always recorded in the summer.

The box has a dark coat of paint so the special wasn't recorded between Twin Dilemma and Attack of the Cybermen. I reckon it must have been recorded late July or early August, around the time of Vengeance on Varos and before the box was carted off to Spain for the Two Doctors and looks cracked in the later studio sessions.

I'm currently reading through Paul Smith's excellent TARDIS Chronicles book and he mentions that he's seen the production documentation for the first produced story of season 20, Snakedance.

The Snakedance documents show that set designer Jan Spoczynski commissioned a new TY-J TARDIS - thus confirming season 20 did indeed see a brand new TARDIS! Tom Yardley-Jones Mark 2.

Being dissatisfied with the in-house set construction and finding outsourcing was more cost-effective, he pushed for outside contractors.

The new TARDIS was contracted out to George Block at Thorn EMI Elstree Studios (proficient in working with fibreglass - he'd produced costumes and weapons for The Empire Strikes Back).

"The order specified using the existing moulds from the 1980 prop".

Paul Smith surmises that bits of the 1980 prop may have been cannibalised but the rest was likely junked.

May find out when the the Season 20 Blu-Ray set comes out as they have the scans for the production paperwork as PDFs.  The  TARDIS Chronicles Book is excellent.  I assume it's very accurate

Its a great book; however I do think there's a couple of debatable inaccuracies.

I recently saw a detailed drawing of the fresnel lamp and housing for the Tom Yardley-Jones box that had been drawn some time ago by Tony Farrell but I can no longer find it 😞
