So having an angle of 35degrees for the trapezoid (I'm assuming the vertices facing towards the console), I suspect there would be some overlap for the Five Doctors console room.

1. Door length =3000m width
2. Scanner Wall =1800mm width
3. Inner Door=1650mm
4. Roundel Walls =2600mm each (there are 5 of them)

Close enough! ;D

Comments from resident experts? ;D

BTW, is Rob on this board?

I think Rob might be, but he seldom posts.

You can find him and a lot of nice people over on www.who3d.co.uk/forum

In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,

OK... A good friend pointed out that I made a typo here...

That should say SEASON 15... not season 1...! Season 15
was the second season to feature the fibreglass roundels (the
first being 14 in the wooden, secondary console room).

From my visits to the BBC's written archive, I don't believe
there are ANY plans dating back to 1963.

Sorry for any confusion.

wonderful. BTW, did you think my interpretation of the dimensions was correct? ie

1. Door length =3000m width
2. Scanner Wall =1800mm width
3. Inner Door=1650mm
4. Roundel Walls =2600mm each (there are 5 of them)

Excellent. I don't think any fan has made a full scale representation of this control room yet. The closest is Scarwearers glorious one! Dare I say the ONLY full sized fan console room in the world?

Well, I would say his is the only as-close-to-the-real-thing-as-one-can-make.  There are people who have made console rooms...by taping plastic plates to the wall. ;)  However, Jaren Elo has made his own version of the console room prior to moving to the northwest US coast.  Check his thread if you have not done so.

Mine still has a long way to go, and there are fan projects that are well beyond what I've managed:

There was a fan group who built an entire Star Trek : original series bridge a long time ago now. I think they even got a visit from Gene Roddenberry (now, where did I read that?...).

There was also a chap in the UK who decorated a flat/apt. to look like the Enterprise D interior from the Star Trek: The Next Generation.

True, but I think you're the only person in WHO fandom to have done something as special as you have :)

Yes, I've seen those fan ones with plates stuck on the wall ha ha.
I guess with limited space these days ie taking up an entire room! it would be extremely hard to have a permanent Console room set anywhere.

So yes, the award goes to Scarfwearer for being the only one with a standup console room ;D

I saw some poor quality pictures of some studio floor plans for the Castrovalva console room, and its decidedly tear drop shaped rather than anything resembling a regular octagon.

The question is, does that assumption ring true for the Five Doctors console room?

Quote from: rassilonsrod on May 06, 2009, 05:35 pmI had a dig around my stuff and found a plan I have for a story from a previous era (Season 1 to be precise). I think we can extrapolate some info from this.

The roundel recesses are 550mm diameter, and 80 mm either side, like this

80 550 80 550 80 550 80 550 80

Which should give a total width of 2600mm

The doors are 3000mm wide and the screen (assuming the its the same) is 1800mm and the door 1650mm (again if its the same flat).

Finally, the quality isn't great and the height of the flats isn't very clear... But I think it says 3300mm (its the first digit thats obscured... But I'm sure its a 3).

Hope thats some help.

What exactly do you mean by roundel recesses? do you mean the inset of the roundel into the flat? because they really don't look like they have 11/16" on eather side, maybe from the back.

What I mean is the flat (the wall itself) has holes cut in so you can see the roundels through them - and the roundels are screwed in at the back. the holes are 550 across, and 80mm between them.

I found a rare view of the panel on the other side of the door:

doctorwho518.th.png

What we're seeing there is actually one of the walls from the wooden console room painted white. It appears quite a few times later.

2 examples I can think of are in Logopolis, to extend the set when they materialise around the policebox, and also (a suprise to me as I have just watched it recently) in Attack of the Cybermen... Painted grey (roundels painted yellow).

I thought that the roundels were only 498mm wide? Just like in season 15?
