Hello all,
I've built out my Tardis in CAD (CreoParametric) and have those files if anyone would like.  I also built out the lamp (Capaldi era) and have it in CAD and STL if anyone would like.  After cleaning my neglected shop, I've started building.  You can see the base and four corner columns in the pano pic.  I'll get going on the door/wall sections this weekend.

If you didn't read my intro, this is for and indoor drumline show for my daughter's school.  If you don't know indoor drumline, think marching band, but in a school gym, and only the percussion section.  My intro has a video from a couple years ago where I made rolling school desks.

I'll post pictures along the way and the full video of the show around March 2021.

Thanks to Stephen Nicholas (if he's on here) for his drawing.  That was what I used for my CAD models.

The new board software is counter-intuitive.  After you've uploaded images, you need to go back through and "attach" them.  Otherwise they wind up greyed-out "ghost" images.  I went ahead and took care of it this time.

Gotcha.  Thanks for that.  I was wondering why it was grey.

Hey, i stumbled on your post, i don't know how acurate you're looking for you capaldi tardis to be, but i thought i could suggest some mod to your lamp to make it more like the screen used H prop.
Just ring me if intressted ^^
Looking good anyway

So that lamp is physical?  3D printed?  At this point CGI has gotten so good that I can't tell real from virtual here.  Are you planning to sand it to smooth out some of the facets?  It's quite impressive, given the lengths many physical builders (myself included) go to to try to get a lamp they like.  The idea you can just print one out now kind of blows my mind.

The lamp is physical.  I modeled it in CAD (the first two lamp pictures), and one of the other band dads printed it.  I definitely think there will be some sanding to smooth out the facets.  That depends on time.

I've wanted to build replicas for a long time (R2D2, Wall-E, Mousebot, Dalek, & Tardis).  I always imagined "doing it the hard way", but this build is meant to be a show prop and not a replication.  A band dad had a 3D printer at home and I do CAD modeling for a living so quick and dirty is it.  We'll see what happens after this drumline season with the prop.  If it winds up back in my possession, I'll try to make it more screen accurate.

I took some time off over the holidays and got back into it this last weekend.  One wall is up.  I hope to have two side walls, header boxes, and all four columns along with the cart that's going to transport this on it's side complete so the kids can start using it for staging the show by next Monday.

The box sits on 8 4" swivel casters and the cutout is so a student can move the box around the floor from inside the prop.

Looking good.

There's something very exciting about seeing a full size box slowly coming to life.

Keep up the good work!

For sure.  I built the columns, panels, header boxes, and the base separate but putting up that first wall really made it real.  I'm going to quickly outgrow my shop though.  I'll have to build outside and in place at the school for the rest of it.

Ah, the exceedingly rare TARDIS variant Dalek. ;)

Which begs the question: Could a Tardis disguise itself as a Dalek?

This weekend was spent putting the opposite wall up, securing all four header boxes, and making a cart for the Tardis.  This will need to move through school hallways and through standard double doors then be put upright quickly.  After the performance, it will need to lay down again and go out the gym as quick as it came in.

I'm officially too big for my shop now.  I'll have to take it to the school to do the rest of the assembly, finish/paint, and lights.

Anyone here do much with lighting and Arduino?  IMG_9533.jpgIMG_9534.jpgIMG_9535.jpg

I moved the Tardis up to the school yesterday.  The kids get to see it's progress and start using it today.  I have a four day weekend this weekend so I'll get a lot done with this and the winterguard props.IMG_9548.jpgIMG_9549.jpg

This weekend I installed the doors.  Both panels on opposite walls need to open to give access during the show.  I also got the first layer of paint on.  It'll probably take one more layer then weathering.  The first show is in two weeks to I need to kick it into gear.

Ooh, I hadn't seen this build until now, but you have me totally intrigued! I was in Marching Band in high school and I would have killed to do some sort of performance or show based around Doctor Who. Looks lovely so far, can't wait to see the rest of it (and maybe even the show that it's a part of)!
