Thanks for answering :)  I wasn't sure how thick and strong the fiberglass was

After seeing first hand how CBC treats their props I'd bet a paycheck it was built as strong as a fiberglass boat. I give more care to the bag of garbage I'm taking to the curb than a stage hand gives to a set piece he's not responsible for fixing. "you have 30 min to change the set" "If we do it in 5 we get a 25 min break"...

Somebody posted this on Twitter, bad quality but I don't believe I've seen this before, so here it is anyway. It's got a stepladder and all!

Contrary to what timerotor said, I believe the new roof was wooden.

If you look at the corner of the roof, you'll hopefully be able to see that there is clearly a bit of wood facing the front and another one facing the side and that they didn't paint it well enough to hide where they meet

It would have been more than strong enough, it's very strong.
Why would you suppose it would be weaker than timber?
Anyway, the roof is now on TYJ 2
Indestructible solid as concrete
(That is my belief anyway, because the production kept everything for series & didn't waste a thing or make more when there was no budget or necessity)

Timerotor-refurbished the Tom Yardley Jones box #2 box. I suspect that the roof section was fiberglass. As he had been working on one of the contemporary props with an identical roof. And we know the Newberry was given a identical roof so that it would resemble the TYJ mk 1 for this and subsequent stories. I suspect his hands on refurbishment gave him the opportunity to examine the prop.
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

See what you mean about the wood grain on the end, it would be nice to know, shame we never got to see Tony Farrells history on the prop. It's a beautiful looking thing though isn't it. Love logopolis.

I know timerotor refurbished one of the TYJs, and that the roofs on those were fiberglass. But the Newbery was long gone by the time timerotor refurbished the TYJ so his claim that the new Newbery roof ended up on TYJ #2 may be guesswork.

Alternatively, we know the Newbery was altered for Logopolis but was also further altered for season 19, with the signs and doors being changed along with some more new paint. It is entirely possible that they changed the roof to a fiberglass one in this refurbishment but that at the point of filming Logopolis, the roof was made of wood.

I forget where I read it, maybe a DWM article or something, but I remember reading somewhere that the taller wooden roof on the Newberry prop in Logopolis was the wooden former used to create the fiberglass roof pieces for TYJ props.

Wish I could remember where I saw that but it's been years.
