Usually it's one of the Moderators that merge topics like that. However, in this case I think those two topics should remain separate. The one you have linked to in your post above is for "Romans's Sonic Screwdriver Plans" which The14Dr has drawn based on his observations (which he says at the start of his thread, the contents of his post are pure conjecture).

This topic here is for "Romana's Sonic Screwdriver - Reference Images" - images taken from screen grabs (mostly) so they can be used to both build an as-close-as-possible replica of the original, and also to try and calculate (again as accurately as possible) the dimensions of the original prop based on images of the original.

So the topic for the (no offence intended, 14th) fan-created plans should be kept separate from the topic of the actual prop's reference images. (At least, IMHO; that way it keeps confusion on measurements to a minimum... hopefully. ;))

Your posting of the link to 14th's thread in this topic will allow members to easily move between the two threads, while still keeping them separate, so that was a good move on your part, Chris. :) (Maybe 14th will post a link to this topic in his, then we'll have a great cross-reference for everyone.)

Perhaps this would be a good point to remind people about the prop database, which now has about 600 props in it.
This database links topics here on the site that concern the same prop, and every topic that's linked that way has the database entry just a click away at the top of the topic page.
So if you're interested in a prop, you can get quickly to a list of reference topics, workshop discussions and any builds that people have done of it, whether physical, models or virtual. All in one place.

So if you're looking at this topic, you're already literally two clicks away from the plans that Davros Skaro mentioned. There's no need for cross-links in the topics themselves.

Take a look: scroll back to the top of the topic and look for this link: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?action=proplist;sa=show;id=71

If you click it, the plans topic is listed there as a link.

Also,  I think it's very important that any replicas that appear in the Reference section are clearly identified as such, since they are generally made from fan plans, whether available or not, and may not actually match the screen prop, however good they may appear to be.

Rubbertoe replicas straddle the boundary a little, since they are selling copies of props they actually made for the show itself. But I'd still class them as replicas, as they're not actually screen used, so there's no guarantee that they're identical.

From my perspective, I'd put pictures of other people's replicas in the Workshop, since they're not really screen-used Reference material, and they're not builds by the member posting them. They're just used by us as assistance in building a replica. But that's really up to the staff - I'm just a technician. :)

Possible reuse of Romana's sonic prop?

I'm going out on a limb here, but judging by what we can see of the clear boxy-like thingy that Christopher Walken's evil clone is staring at, the image is from 'Blake's 7' (and that boxy thingy is Zen, the capacity charged brain computer).

At a guess, that is, and I'm wide open to correction if I'm wrong.

Yes, Blake's 7 :)

The perspex box is Oracl! :D

Zen was the computer on the liberator (previous 3 seasons)  ;)

I'm talking about the thing in Christopher Walken's Dorian's hand.... ;)

This episode - Rescue - was broadcast in 1981 so if Lalla Ward kept the prop after filming The Horns of Nimon, as she has stated she did, then it won't be the same prop. Blake's 7 is full of similar, handy gadgets.

There must have been two of them made then because one was given away as a prize on Swap Shop.

Great! At least I was half right. ;) Thanks for the correction.

Ah, well then, that explains things. In the US we hardly got any 'Blake's 7', and they never seemed to get any in the correct order... which is probably why I only watched it sporadically. When you get something out of order, it makes more sense if you don't watch it every week... if any of that makes sense!

That I understand. I was initially using that Orac box to help ID the show in answer to Chris' question:

There must have been two of them made then because one was given away as a prize on Swap Shop.

If what the prop people have said in interviews is true, they don't like using any props unless they have at least two on hand in case one breaks. (Again going back to Tennant giving the props people kittens when he insisted on using his personal specs as his "brainy specs" because props/costuming could not find a replica set of frames, and why his sunglasses in "Planet Of The Dead" had different frames than his usual brainy specs; both were tortoise shell color, but the style was different. Watch closely the next time you have a look at that episode; he takes off his brainy specs, sonics them to make them into sunglasses, and when he puts the sunglasses on, the frames are have different shaped earpieces - or whatever those things on the side that rest on your ears are called.)

In the Classic Series, for that one-off in "The Horns Of Nimon", they probably made just two of Romana's sonics: one for her to use (which she kept), and one as a spare in case the one used on set broke. So if no one made off with the spare Romana version sonic, it could very well have ended up being used on 'Blake's 7'.

I would say it was an easy one to replicate, as it looks like an arial (from an inspection torch, or same type as  K9's tail even) with coloured tape at verious stages stuck on.  Ive an old one somewhere, I may have a go at replicating it now I can see those detailed screen grabs. Nice one!

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but Romana uses a sonic in City of Death to get into the cafe the night the Mona Lisa is stolen. It looks identical to the Doctor's but he was definitely shown to be in possession of his own screwdriver at the time.

Perhaps originally she just copied the Doctor's before making refinements.
