Wow.

I could watch these all day.

They are actually quite soothing- almost hypnotic...

Great work.

Quote from: fivefingeredstyre on Aug 30, 2020, 09:44 pmOK, so yesterday I had a hangover you could see from Uranus (thanks to a socially distant visit from the neighbours in the garden on Friday evening. Involving booze - lots of booze...) so rather than do the 47 other more important things I have to do around the House I thought I would have a practice at colour grading my video's, using some footage I had left over from my first attempt at green screen work using one of my 7th scale models.

The original footage is very variable (I've since splashed out on more appropriate lighting equipment, and a better camera), but I'm quite pleased with the end result...

Yep! its repetitive; but this was really just to practice the mystical art of colour-grading.

However who doesn't get bored with seeing a TARDIS spin through space..?

The shots over the moon are my favourite...

I'm impressed!

That's a superbly slow-spinning ship Steve (sorry, couldn't resist a little alliteration)!!

And you've saved me a question as I now know that you can make the Tardis materialise in a tracking shot!

Its all a question of "Scale", Tony... ;)

More practice attempts at colour grading using my 7th scale models. The results are variable as when I shot the models, I had no idea what backgrounds I was going to be placing them against, so they weren't lit sympathetically...

The moral is always storyboard your footage before filming... ;)

Absolutely stunning, yet again! Watching at 1080p on my 27" monitor really shows the detail on those models - you could almost believe the old BBC had put the full-scale box(es) on a turntable and filmed them... if it weren't for the fact that a) at any period in classic Who it probably would have been very wobbly! and b) The backgrounds are way more beautiful than the old black background or video toaster effects. I particularly love the vortex at the beginning.

Are your planet backgrounds from NASA images? Amazing how we can have pictures like that from space probes, free to access on the internet!
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

Thanks. Some are from NASA, the Mars and Jupiter are real; however I've tinkered with the colouring in an attempt to make things more vibrant.

As I said in the earlier post, these are kind of done on a whim and the models are lit very blandly. If I actually thought things through I'd like things more in tune with the backgrounds.

I've built up a library of usable backgrounds now. Once I get a decent camera I'll have another bash with a bit more planning to see if I can get the lighting right...

More of the usual...

Not only am I practicing colour grading, but also I wanted to see if I could get the models to drift and roll around the screen more realistically.

Not so keen on the second segment, but I'm quite pleased with the others...

I could quite happily watch this on loop all day - the lighting and textures are bang on!

That first one with the Hudolin is my favourite.

Spent the afternoon playing with my new camera (guess who turned 50 on Friday and got a nice pressie)

Had fun all afternoon filming spinning TARDISes, but it wasn't until I downloaded the footage I realised I had the camera on the wrong setting. I wanted 4K but I recorded in HD. I thought it was all going too well... ::)  ::)  ::)

phillbarron

I am quite ludicrously jealous of your kit. The results look amazing!

Turning 50 is not so bad after all 😊

Well, it's better than the alternative ;)
