I don't want to derail Crispin's build diary but - as it's background information - is it any wonder the base needed repairing and re-attaching with L brackets and little wooden 'locating blocks' when this is how the BBC stored its "scenery"?!

Thanks for the useful observations guys!
I was aware of the blocks and brackets on the posts and the missing step over the replacement doors.
I'd initially thought the replacement windows were 3/8" thick, but persuaded myself that that wasn't enough.
It certainly seems possible that there's a mixture of thickness, gap and shadow - all contributing, so 1/4" seems plausible.
I'm not rushing to redo them, but if they look way too chunky when it's all together I might reconsider.
I used 5mm ply for the other windows this time, because hardboard is horrible to work with. It's too thick really, but I can live with it.

EDIT: I'm probably not going to replicate the sign box damage...

I've managed to do a little bit...

I've started on the painting, though I've still got a few bits of tidy-up to do with the adjustments.



This is black-board paint for the inside of one of the walls.



For some reason this paint looks really weird in natural light - way too light and way too green. It doesn't look that way as much in person, but still better indoors.



I've removed the locks and handles from the doors while I paint.



When it's all blue I'll start the weathering.

That paint job reminds me of the colour the TYJ had in its last seasons. You know, how the blue varied according to the light, and how in some shots in natural light it seemed like a light shade of blue, very toy-like.

Impressive job though. I hope that when I build a TARDIS I'm half as good as you.

I've painted both the Newbery and TYJ variants the same colour, as they share parts.

It's a Leyland paint: S 3060-B

I was going for a more season 18 colour, which would be when the Newbery was first altered for Logopolis.
It'll look a lot less intense with some weathering - I hope.
