Lantern of Gallifrey

I've been inspired by Russellsutherns K-9 build and have started my own.  This is my first build on here so any advise is appreciated.   A few years ago I started building one out of cardboard but didn't get past the body.  I took it apart and used it as a templet to make my panels.

I figured I should put the line in for the "removable panel" before I stuck anything together.

Then I test fit everything together with just tape.  I still need to cut the top panel.

Now I'm wondering what the location for where the head attaches is.  Does anyone have measurements for that?

russellsuthern

Welcome to the club!

Looks like my boy has a twin!!

Looking great so far.

I just eyeballed the head/neck position, so it's not accurate, but I can send you the measurements if you want.. :D

Regards,

Russ

Hi Russ who's measurements are they?

Also looking fantastic lantern need to get on with mine!
No, not the mind probe!

Kit Kat:
Sorry if my answer was unclear.
What I meant was: I didn't use any measurements for the placement of my head, I just went with what looked good to me, but now my head is on, I could measure that & give those figures, if Lantern wants them.
Hope that's clear!

Cheers,

Russ

Yeah I'll take them.  That would be awesome.   Thank you.

Hi Lantern,

As promised, here are the measurements for the head placement of my K-9, all in cms:

Please remember this is just my preference, NOT accurate to the original prop!

So I've had to work the last couple of days but I did get around to gluing some panels together. It looks like body filler is going to be my best friend.

I think it's looking great! And I certainly feel you on the body-filler front. Many a time I've started to wonder if the thing I'm sanding is now more filler than wood. :o
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

russellsuthern

We've all been there- I wanted to call my Dalek "Phil" 'cause he was so full of filler!
He was soaking it up like Skarosian radiation!!!

So the four basic sides are all glued together. I ended up using hot glue after the wood glue dried just to strengthen the corners. It looked like spider webs all over the inside.

I removed the tape. It's a great feeling to pick it up and it stay together.

The hard board I used doesn't like to bend so I think I might order a sheet of styrene for the back and one for the head.

And the local craft store open so I started to get supplies for the ears.

So I thought I'd change gears and work on an ear. They are a lot bigger than I thought they would be.

I think they look great.
Very accurate.

It's a common trend that whenever I start building anything, I always think, "This is s lot bigger than I thought it would be..."

Maybe I need a bigger telly.... :)

Keep up the good work!

(When the lockdown is over, our K-9's will have to meet up at a show or something & go for a walkies... :)  You never know, if they like each other we could make a fortune from the puppies!!! :o  )

Russell
