I think what davidnagel was trying to say, and please; correct me if i'm wrong, is that the box looks too...flat. The original had the texture of the wood grain through the paint that yours, while painted the correct color and with SA materials and all that jazz, doesn't have. Not to say, of course, that it isn't a fantastic build! It is!

Well, you know the Tardis is subject to Chameleonic Shift. So it's appearance does vary over time...

That is an intentional choice on my part and my friend and his dad. In order to get the look of the real Eccleston/Tennant box, the wood would have to have been burned by a blowtorch, and then scored by a metal brush wheel on a drill. This would have given the desired aged, recessed, and chipped wood look, but it would have prematurely shorted the life of my replica. So we chose to keep the wood clean knowing that true damage would happen over time.

My box isn't a true Eccleston/Tennant build anyway since the plans we had were for the Series 5 Smith box. So the dims are Series 5, with the trimmings and color from Series 1-4. I had considered burning and scoring the box during the build process, but in the end, I decided that I wanted the box to last a very long time in my collection so I opted for a customized version, which seemed fair given that it was always an amalgamated box being a Series 1-4 & 5 mix.

Yes thats it, it looks flat and lacks "texture" and the paint job "implies" it. Not disrespecting the hard work gone into it, nor the decision to go way that, it just looks peculiar in some photos to my weird eye Its a nice build.

I finally finished lighting my sign boxes, a project I've been thinking about for far too long. I'll do the windows next, but they'll need some custom boxes, which will take a bit of time. But slow and steady etc...

Here are some pictures of the lights in place and in action. As well as one video. The last photo is from a film project I did with a friend to ease some of the doldrums of isolation, the windows were only temporarily lit for the film with lights I abandoned for this project.

Thank you! You've no idea how difficult it was to find good LEDs with the right shade. I bought online and stopped in many stores, but I'm very happy with these.

And yes, you have it all correct. I did do a test with the LED's pointing at the sign face, however it was too direct. The light wasn't as even and you could see a glow of each individual LED at times.

Then I did another test with the lights directed against the sign face, but still pointing towards the back of the box at a middle layer that my Sign boxes have, which I also put the aluminum tape on. They were a bit brighter, however there was a very distinct bleed line on the sign face as the LEDs were right against it creating a shadow and halo effect. So ultimately I chose to remove the middle board, move the lights to that lower level (where my middle boarding would usually be) and added the aluminum tape to that sign box backing board. The effect seemed to work the best for a nice even glow. And if I ever decide that they aren't bright enough - which I don't think should be an issue - I have the space in each box for three more strips across the top of the box, just as I did on the lower level. It's nice to have options.
