Barry Newbery exterior plans from the Season 14 Blu-Ray PDF

Yeah, this is what he intended and had planned, but what was actually built, ended up significantly different. Which is why I've titled my build as such.

Reviving a slightly dead thread here, but these plans don't seem to have any depth measurements (inset measurements), and therefore I'd just have to blindly guess how deep the panels are, how deep the frames are etc. Anyone know how I can find depth measurements for the Newberry?

It looks like the original blueprint might have that information, but it can't be uploaded at a resolution I'm able to read it.  Perhaps pm danielc to see if he can either get you the information or send you a higher resolution of the blueprint? 

Barring that, using Tony's measurements for scale, you could maybe calculate the depths from the top and side elevations on the blueprint.  The base of the lamp is supposed to be 25mm.  If you printed out the blueprint and enlarged/reduced it so the base of the lamp was 2.5mm and then compared it to the depths you want to know; say something on your printout measures 3.5mm, then you'd know it is supposed to be 35cm. 

And last but not least, the thing was almost certainly built using commercially available dimensional lumber.  Of course then you have the wrinkle of whether nominal dimensions have changed since when the blueprint was drawn.  And at that point, I'm an American so I have to lapse to the (ironically) English system of measurement.  Tony's adaptation shows stiles that are 84mm wide, which works out to (googles) about 3.3"  So 4" lumber.  Eyeballing it, it doesn't look deep enough to be a 2x4, so call it a 1x4, which, in 21st century USA, is going to actually be 3/4"x3.5".  Where'd the 2/10" difference between 3.3 and 3.5 go?  Rounding error?  The aforementioned difference in nominal dimensions of lumber in 21st century USA vs 20th century England? 

Don't know if any of that helps, but that's the best I've got.

If imperial measurements are your thing, http://www.doctorwhoscarf.com/drwho/newbery.pdf has a cross-cut. Depths are unlabelled, but you can figure them out with a ruler and basic maths.

So far I've done this using the first plans you linked, however I have messed up several times and it is really not good enough.

Do you have any advice?

I always end up misreading or doing something or other that messes up the build, and I find Tony's plans and others very hard to read.

I wonder why Ol' Newb is the only version This Planet Earth don't do?

Thought I'd give a little update, used Tony's plans (I found the rest of the measurements!!) to make this.




I am very pleased with this so far, as it is mostly accurate and I haven't made any deviation from the plans whatsoever.

And it's finished!





If the colours look a bit off, that's because these are materials from Fusion 360 that I used to represent the ones on the box, they are not a match at all.

The red frame around the sign is just the border of the image, I'm not sure how to get rid of it.


I've adapted it for printing and it assembles together.

May make it available depending on the interest!
