Quick question: did we get a (more or less) definitive size for the lamp? Because that would be a good place to extrapolate measurements from.

Well, at least IMHO, there are three possibilities. Going on the assumption that they kept the lens roughly the same size as the previous TARDIS lamps (the Anchor-style and the New Haven-style) with a 5- or 6-inch diameter lens, and taking into account the housing of the Anchor-style, we have something like this: Vermont Lanterns 12" Anchor Lamp (Image). The replacement "lens" for this lamp is only 4.5 inches tall (counting the lip/flange that sits in the housing) with a 4-inch diameter at the lip/flange; so the lens itself could be closer to a 4.5-inch diameter when you look at it (12" Anchor Lamp Replacement Chimney (Image)).

A lamp with a 5-inch lens is the Vermont Lanterns 15.5" Anchor Lamp (Image). The lens size on this one, again according to the replacement, could be a little larger when you look at it (15.5" Anchor Lamp Replacement Chimney (Image)). As above, the 5-inch diameter is shown to be for the lip/flange that sits in the lamp's housing, so the lens' actual diameter could be larger than that (maybe as much as 5.25 inches, which is what it says for the height, and like above this is measured from very top to bottom, including the lips/flanges).

If they have kept with the 6-inch diameter lens, the next size up for anchor-style is the Vermont Lanterns 19" Anchor Lamp (Image). This one has a "lens" that's 6.25" tall, and 6" in diameter from the flange/lip at the bottom, so the lens itself could be closer to 6.5" or so in diameter (19" Anchor Lamp Replacement Chimney (Image)). This one has a housing with a 10.5-inch diameter base, which might be too large for the square "plank" base the lamp is mounted on, unless someone knows what size that square base is.

So there are three possible sizes for the new TARDIS' roof lamp: the first one above, possibly too small; the second one, a good contender; the third one, possibly too large. We have some nice overhead shots of the TARDIS showing the lamp and the mounting base it sits on, not to mention that nice close-up of the lamp-and-base sitting on a box waiting to be put in place. That could give some great measuring info for someone with better size judgment than mine. So hopefully someone reading this can narrow down the size, and when they do, we've got images of the full lamp above to get height and diameter measurements from.

I hope some of this is helpful.

Well, even though I said I wouldn't, since I had a spare hour this afternoon, here is the Arwel Wyn Jones Tardis drawn exactly to the dimensions as stated in the Type 40 Handbook:

nope.png

It ought now be possible to overlay this diagram onto various photos to check the accuracy of the Handbook's dimensions.

(Incidentally, the height of the corner-posts equates to 2126 mm and not 2176 mm stated in the Handbook. So, I assume the stated dimension of 2176 mm is typographical error and it seems someone really should have done some proof-reading!)

Tony, you managed in an hour what I was struggling with for quite a few more!  :o
Interesting catch on the post height, that's an error I hadn't caught.

If anyone wants to get up close and personal with the Box... theres unrestricted access to one of the props at this weekends MCM Comic Con at ExCeL London.
(South Hall 2, on the corner of the Doctor Who stand)

MCM is on for a couple more days.

Can't do it, alas. But what would be the most important/interesting measurements to take, from most to least?

I guess if we had two of the three, that'd give us a good basis for the rest of the box's measurements:

•Width from corner post to corner post.
•Width of one corner post (easier to measure on the sly that the whole box width)
•Width of door/wall panel (if height can be acquired as well, then that's even better).

Personally, I would go for a measurement of the height of the rails (definitely the bottom-most one, and then any others you could measure). Then the height and width of the recessed panels on the doors/walls. Finally, the height of the steps above the doors (total, and individual if possible).

With the height of the steps - which could be as simple as one inch - you could use that as the "zero-point reference" for measuring everything else: just count inch by inch. For smaller parts, split the one-inch in half, then half again (to get down to the quarter inch), and then half again (to get down further to the 1/8th inch). Anything smaller than that could be tweaked if needed.

So those would be my three important measurements, if I was going to measure things.

A friend was due to go today, but he's been getting sicker day on day and he's had to miss out. Still, if anyone finds themselves conveniently in proximity then now they know what to measure.

Photos from MCM are currently proving elusive, but I did come across this from a compilation on flickr:

Apologies for reviving a 'dead' thread, but I've made an attempt at dimensions for the latest design. Whilst it is definitely not perfect, I feel it may be slightly closer than previous iterations posted here. I'm hoping for feedback on this before I proceed with alternate views and such. It's drawn at 16 PPI so anything not listed can be extrapolated from the image.

Im writing this as I am struggling to recreate the Brachacki & Newberry TARDIS.
As a late birthday gift I will be receiving the TARDIS Type 40 Manual. As I then am willing to model this TARDIS.
So far as I can understand is that the Handbook plans (in most aren't accurate enough) but I seem to be getting a "better" result than on the plans on page 2...
So I wonder should I follow the up-to-date plans from lespaceplie? Or should I follow the Handbook plans? The dimensions for the doors to me, at least are more realistic.

Well as lespaceplie said. Take the plans from the Handbook with a pinch of salt.

I have been busy yesterday constructing my own TARDIS based on the plans for the 13th Doctor's TARDIS.
As to which resulted in the whole structure falling short. The doors aren't any higher than round 1,90m. If that would be built in real life, most of the actors playing the Doctor & Co would have to stoop to get in!

So I took a screen shot, with a person of 1,80m, just to illustrate. So I think lespaceplie up-to-date plan seems to be more realistic.
Didn't want to show off the design early, but just to show that the Handbook plans were also indeed guessed.Schermopname (43).png

It was indeed! Follow lespaceplie's plans rather than the handbook.
