Having a go at making this, however this isn't final I've only just placed down these pieces, any ideas on how to age brass? IMG_20200501_123923.jpg
No, not the mind probe!

Volpone

I would say that if it's brass a light sanding with a fine grit sandpaper and about a week of time will age the brass wonderfully.

I was in the Marines back in the '90s and there were 2 kinds of beltbuckles:  regular and "anodized."  (You can't anodize brass, but Marines use odd names for things.)  Basically anodized brass has a thin clear protective coating over it to keep it from oxidizing.  You never have to polish anodized brass.  For boot camp they don't let you have anodized brass, so you're constantly having to polish your brass to keep it shiny.

So I suspect if you got to work on that with steel wool or something like 1,000 grit wet/dry sandpaper you could sand off the protective film and it would age naturally (and fairly quickly).

Shameless plug but I did one of these a while ago using what looks to be the same pendant if you fancy a look -

Thank you volpone that's actually extremely useful! I'm gonna wire wool it as I currently don't have any high grit sandpaper, and funny.you should say that hordiss as I've had that saved on my phone as inspiration for ages! Haha I wish my pocket watch had the beautiful pattern yours does around the edge but hey ho

I found it on eBay years ago and they did free laser etched phrases on the back but I think the gold will give yours a nice contrast. Inspiring others is the greatest compliment so thank you for that.

Like this but you pop the pic out with a craft knife to make room for the seal.

No problemo! It is a gorgeous watch you own, I might buy another and have a go with that! But first I'm gonna try figure out if I can get this looking how I want

Of course. I let my enthusiasm get the better of me sometimes. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

00100lrPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20200506172819409_COVER.jpg accidentally sanded out of curiosity some of the paintwork back and realised my pocket watch it actually a copper like material and the brass is actually metal haha but anyway I've stuck it all down and I'm going to spray it silver after I've primered it! Hopefully it looks good? Luckily it wasn't very expensive to put together so I can always have another go in future

I hate it when that happens. The most bizarre one I had was silver coloured metal, put it on the buffing wheel and it turned to copper, I can work with copper I thought so carried on to reveal the thing was in fact plastic!

I really like the overall look, nice and beefy plus you didn't have to take the outer edge off the seal like I did with mine.

Final pass of primer on both for the night! And yeah cardinal its very weird! I was trying to dull the finish to make it seem more battered but sadly it was copper

Ooo hang on - is that the original back or something you've added to be like the chameleon arch watch?

KIT-KAT

Ah yeah it's a new back! I have a draw in my room filled with random metal stuff I find that I like and it looked alot like the chameleon arch fob watch backing and I was like ooo I'll stick that on their! And it also helps balance the weight from all the new stuff I've stuck on the front

Cardinal Hordriss

Be careful when opening it. Mine had spring issues because of the extra weight.

It looks like you may have breached a rule. Not a forum one. Cardinal Hordriss rules. If inspired by something I did yours isn't aloud to be better!

Lol.

Yeah I have noticed it's alot heavier on the front so I'm worried about how the springs will work,  but either way I'm happy with how it's looking, haha thank you I still love your pocket watch it's gorgeous, and all your builds are made so well and with such professionalism
