I'm sure that paint will be as good as it says.    The problems begin where there is any standing water near joints in the materials.    The materials (ply and wood) will expand and contract at slightly different rates, and can eventually crack the paint at joints.

The wood they have used won't have been treated with wood preservative, so once water gets into places, it will soak right in.

Sorry to sound negative!   as long as you keep an eye on it and repaint any necc bits once every year or two you'll be fine!

And just to end.. you'll also find that if its particularly windy and rainy, the wind will blow rain upwards and sideways!    You may still find the odd puddle inside (just dont blame the dog!)

Rain; high winds blowing the tarpaulin off; and now hailstones. And it's only just after lunch.

But at least no zombie apocalypse global pandem...oh, shoot. :(

That is looking very lovely, and an amazing birthday present from your wife! Always thought the stuff I've seen up close from this planet earth looked brill, the props they had on display at the doctor who experience was mint.

Not negative at all! All advice and insight gratefully received. I would have several blunders already if it weren't for TB!*

*And may still have; unknown unknowns and all that.

Whenever I'm sitting at the kitchen table my gaze just drifts through the window towards it. Been dreaming of one for as long as I can remember, and it was well worth the wait.

Got a full second coat of the exterior completed today (bar the white windows). Weather looking good for tomorrow, so should manage the third and final (for the time being) coat.20200407_152548.jpg

Hee hee.

What we didn't realise when went to Cardiff for the set tour, was that my wife was already carrying Charlotte. So she was with us in the TARDIS; maybe she does have something of the Ponds about her (though hopefully not the programmed to kill the TARDIS owner part).

Only managed the roof and two sides today. It was a postman-rings-and-sets-off-the-dogs-who-wake-up-the-kids-early-from-their-afternoon-nap sort of day.

Adding the third coat is quite a different experience; there's a feeling now of working on a rubbery texture which bodes well.

My TARDIS came with a very nice lamp, but unfortunately there was no way of securingi it to the roof without unsealing it and completely dismantling it. I wanted to find an alternative solution, one which would also allow me access for changing the bulb. My wife suggested attaching a piece  of wood as a base, with a hole for the bulb.

With the lockdown in place I had to content myself with a scrap piece of plywood and my father-in-law's jigsaw. Having never touched a jigsaw in my life, I am very forgiving of the result...

The Sikaflex sealant is also an adhesive. With the bottom of the lamp being a very thin ring, and inevitably having to face some severe Scottish winds, I applied the Sikaflex very generously and then coated three times with Superdec.20200402_200534.jpg20200402_201604.jpg20200413_101428.jpg

Windows Update 6.8

This TPE TARDIS came with white window frames on the outside; inside were clear perspex windows covered in a black T-shape adhesive sheet. The clear "panels" wete textured and the perspex supported in place by freestanding nails.

I removed the windows then, just to be on the safe side, applied Sikaflex to the exterior join of the frames and the walls. I then covered the whole frame with three coats of white Superdec. As mentioned before, the Sikaflex is both a sealant and adhesive; I applied some to the inside of the frames to hold the windows in. I then put another layer around the perimeter of the window.

I realised I wanted the feel and visual of frames on the interior. For the time being at least, I went for a very low tech solution and applied white self adhesive rubber tape.

Forgive the messy painting around the windows; the interior walls will be painted soon.
