Hiya I've always noticed there seems to be two tardis sounds; the normal one and then this weird similar sound that comes from who knows where but has been used a few times in the 1990s I was wondering how it happened and if anyone has a clean rip of it?

It also appears in this episode of blue peter:

Isn't it more a case of it being a "really, really worn out" copy of the audio recording rather than an alternative?

Good god, that was a concentrated blast of late 1990s graphic/visual design.  A pretty eyestraining reminder of just how crap that sort of design was.

Its just the regular sound effect but with a flange over the top. Nothing overly special...

I must admit I did used to like the "Mid Pertwee" era  TARDIS Sound Effect  which was achieved by adding 'Reverse Echo'   :D

Hmm I wondered if it was an knackered copy, and as to if there is a flange over the top, Yeah I can see that could be the case, I've tried doing it myself but it sounds nothing like it. I guess that could just be a difference in modern and old equipment tho.

If your looking for different TARDIS noises the Troughton era had quite a few. From memory things got a bit weird with the Dominators and the Space Pirates. I also think that the Krotons was a bit strange as well...

I couldn't find a clip of the TARDIS landing with this, but they used this reverb materialization sound a few times in the Pertwee era
