This box did, at some point, have the Pickwoad piping installed on the left and right hand sides by the BBC. Hence the grey floor and the glue marks on the interior walls. I believe it was later damaged and had to be removed.

I've said it elsewhere, but this is another thread with people posting 'Tardis interior backdrops to give the bigger-on-the-inside illusion' that makes me surprised there isn't already a thread specifically for them.

I'd love that! I saw some nice images while browsing, but I'm not sure where to find them again. It would great to have a central resource as we have for the signs etc. I've had to order a replacement St John's Ambulance badge (for what seems a bizarre reason; more later) so I'm very grateful to Galacticprobe.

I did a studio tour myself as well a few years back. It is a fantastic sight when you walk through the TARDIS doors and into the console room, isn't it :D

Jam Jar Lurker

It's something I must imagined everyday of my life. And the tour was over so quick that it becomes surreal and dreamlike.

I know I've got an image of the 2005 backdrop, and someone on here created very good renders of the 2013 and 2014 ones

I saw the 13/14 ones. They were amazing. Were there ever hi res files shared?

Here's me with my Laserson Probe, finishing the sealing of the outside. Ready, I was planning, for the first coat of waterproofing tomorrow. Alas, 40 mph winds are currently forecast here from 9am to 3pm, so we'll see what the day brings...20200401_160516.jpg

Did you get two bases when you bought it? it looks like you have another on on the floor next to you...

Jam Jar Lurker

Yes actually! The previous owner kept the box in his conservatory, but even then it was too tall. So he had a custom shorter base and kept the lamp off. Thanks to the months of rain, our garden is sodden. The shorter base is useful for preventing the ladder sinking into the soil.

Lost the last two days to the elements; rain, high winds and even sleet. It's as though the Enemy knows what I'm up to. Still, tomorrow looks promising (though so did today).

Today I finally started coating the old girl's exterior.

As a novice to a project like this, I spent some time browsing the weatherproofing section of TB and reading up on various wood treatments. I finally decided on Sadolin Superdec. It's self priming and undercoating; moves with the wood as it expands and contracts; and erodes by weathering without cracking or flaking. It also offers up to 10 years protection... but from what I've read about TARDISes, my expectations aren't as high as that.

It's nice to work with, especially with a roller.

It took me a lot longer to complete the first coat than I'd hoped. All those ridges and steps and indents can be fiddlly. With the light fading, I had to call it quits with only the doors to do.

Sadolin recommend 3 coats, so I'm not throwing away Kroll the Tarpaulin just yet. 20200403_102229.jpg

Here's a photo I took before I started today, showing the first coat of Superdec next to the untouched doors.

I don't think I'll get more than the doors done today... Paint needs to dry before the tarpaulin goes up for this evening's rain.

Hopefully a full second coat tomorrow. 20200405_110648.jpg

Interesting technical details on the paint.  And from the detail photo, it looks like it's going to nicely replicated the color and clean look of the Matt Smith box. (I forget, did they leave the exterior alone for Capaldi or did they tweak it a bit?)

The paint certainly looks great just now, but as to whether it's as good as they claim... we'll need to wait and see.

I think the Capaldi box had only a series of subtle changes to the signage (to the point where the set doors no longer matched the prop). Not that I noticed; I just read about it!

Rain; high winds blowing the tarpaulin off; and now hailstones. And it's only just after lunch.
