I originally felt hesitant and a bit of a fraud joining and posting on this board as mine is a second hand This Planet Earth TARDIS and not one I've built. But I was immediately made very welcome and assured that a rehoming and weatherproofing diary would be of interest. I collected my Matt Smith/Ed Thomas (refurb) box nearly two months ago; today I get to install her in my garden.

I was born in 1970 and have wanted my own TARDIS for as long as I can remember. Living near Glasgow I've always been able to see real TARDIS style police boxes, and was even allowed to step inside a working box as a kid. Thanks to TARDIS Builders I've discovered that there used to be a box right outside my old flat in Coatbridge (though sadly I've so far been unsuccessful in finding a photo).

At the start of February this year my wife and I were watching Praxeus. At one point I commented that sonething about the shot of the TARDIS on the beach looked fake. This somehow lead to my wife revealing that she had sourced a second hand TARDIS as an early 50th birthday present for me.

It was a Matt Smith style This Planet Earth box, which is our favourite design. The owner had spent a few years taking the box to conventions across the UK, raising money for charity. Rather excitingly, at various points every Doctor from Tom Baker to Peter Capaldi has stood inside it.

Things moved rather quickly. By the end of the week I had hired a van, popped down to England and then drove back up through the darkness and the beginning of Storm Ciara to bring my prize home.

It had rained throughout January and it continued to rain through February and March. Then the weather broke, the UK entered lockdown due to the Coronavirus, and I suddenly had a dry spell and extra time on my hands...

This TARDIS has never been kept outside before. Here's my daughter helping to waterproof the underside of the  base. (More about materials later.)20200326_130617.jpgIMG-20200326-WA0014.jpgIMG-20200327-WA0024.jpg

We had to turn my wife's greenhouse around and lay some slabs. Thanks to TARDIS builders I learned the importance of lifting the wooden base off the concrete. I decided to go for a plastic shed base and found a place selling handy 50 cm x 50 cm tiles. Sadly the delivery company lost track of my parcel and it was touch and go to see if a replacement could make it through the lockdown.IMG-20200327-WA0028.jpgIMG-20200327-WA0026.jpg[attachid]IMG-20200327-WA0024.jpg[/attach]IMG-20200327-WA0022.jpg

Today was about getting the TARDIS up so I can take advantage of the forecast dry few days coming up. The lamp is missing from these pictures as the fitting is a little odd and will take some figuring out.IMG-20200327-WA0023.jpgIMG-20200327-WA0040.jpgIMG-20200327-WA0029.jpg

Now she's up, and spent the night under tarpaulin, it's time to start Weatherproofing.

That last picture is taking self isolation to extremes....

Nice work on the Tardis!

I'm looking at this picture and thinking two things:
"I remember when I used to see those stools all the time in supermarkets, etc"
And:
"I wonder if one of those stools would make a good base for building a mini Dalek?"
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

Thank you.

My wee boy called it a Dakek yesterday! Quite where it came from I'm not entirely sure...

I may have overestimated the size of tarpaulin required...20200328_010138.jpg
