In all honesty, regarding the layout of the buttons - this was the 1960s, when the episodes were still black and white, so how do we even know that any of the buttons were red? I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to know for certain the arrangement of the buttons, and I certainly don’t think anyone should be calling someone else’s build “wrong” because they have a different button arrangement.

Normally I do water the PVA down slightly (as Davros Skaro mentioned) but I found that this tends to run slightly and leave even worse brush marks and blobs, especially when I put it onto acrylic paint. So yeah, patience and perseverance basically (and if you don't put the glue on too thick there's less chance of there being blobs.)

I think the US equivalent is "Elmer's glue" or "school glue", but it can also be called white wood glue as well, as Davros Skaro mentioned)

Good point! We also wouldn't know if those white or silver squares were those colors either. In B&W, they could be silver, or white, and we'd never know. (Heck, they could even be yellow.) Given the fact that recording was being done in B&W, a safe guess for those would be white; no painting involved, just plain white squares stuck on: money and time saved.

Those other squares are the quandary. Certain shades of other colors can all look the same in B&W. It would take some serious image processing to determine what shade of "dark grey" those other squares were. And again, given the B&W nature of the recording, they could have been just dark grey, again saving time and money from not having to paint them if the color happened to be at hand.

Oblivion's second, "more accurate" version has only three colored squares (orange), yet the prop, from what we can see of it, looks like it has four. So I'm not sure even Oblivion knew what color those squares were. (Also for his second version he has the side squares with the black one on top of a reddish one: the reverse color pattern than the light over dark that we're seeing here. Time to pull out the "Tomb" DVD for a better look at this one!)

Oblivion was a man of very few words, so we don't even know how he came up with those colors for his build because he never said. Maybe someone with good photo colorizing software could get a decent screen grab of Troughton holding this prop in which his braces are also visible. Since we know from color publicity photos of his costume that his braces were red with yellow shapes on them, maybe those could be used to help colorize the grab with the prop? (At worst, we know Troughton had blue eyes, so maybe those could be used for a colorizing reference... his eyes, and skin tones, maybe.)

Thanks for the info, Chris (and you're welcome for the other... just trying to make sure I wasn't confusing things again ). And also 14th. That's exactly what ran through (what's left of) my mind when I read Chris' comment: Elmer's. (They make white wood and school glue. And it doesn't yellow, at least not that I've seen over the decades of using it.)
