wooden pegs or screws?

Has anyone used wooden pegs to hold their TARDIS posts to the frame? I'd think it would be easier to break it down and transport it.

eddyc

Wooden pegs can swell if they get wet or even if it is very humid.

This would make it harder to get them out.

I was just trying to find an easier way to take the TARDIS down quickly. But you do have a point there.

You can get hinges with removable pins - some people join their TARDISes together with these, which makes assembly/disassembly much easier.

You can run long bolts from underneath the base and have the corner posts fit over those.

Or make the posts slot into holes in the base, which was my plan on the last build, this time around however I am thinking about the new NST method, which actually was something I started and then stopped at the planning stage on my previous build.

Not entirely sure what those things are on each side of the wall's guide slot are though.
Bolts?  They almost look like little wheels on spindles but I doubt that's it

Good ideas but I'm baffled on the post dimensions. I've seen them 6'' on the front

mordrogyn

6x6 is pretty much the norm for all but the NST which started out narrower but in it's latest incarnation (and the refit just before) were widened to about 5.5 which is actually the width of a 2x6 or 1x6

The cylinders are most likely the rods with the casters underneath the base.

With those flat "heads" on those rods, maybe they're attached to the locks on the casters. This way once they get the old girl assembled and rolled into place, all they have to do is pull (or push) on those heads to raise or lower the rods, thereby locking the casters so she doesn't roll as the actors run in and out.

Maybe?

Actors? We ain't no actors... well, I was in a play once twenty-something odd years ago. Thanks for the tip

Most large casters have levers on their sides, like rockers, that when you "twist" it in one direction it locks the wheels so they don't turn. Then when you twist it in the other direction it unlocks the wheel so it can roll. Something like the one pictures on this link:

http://www.uxsight.com/product/images/c/en/full-rotation-flat-caster-wheel-with-swivel-lock-xs0027091029c.jpg

You could drill and bolt the rod to the flat part of the lever, and then with the flat "head" on top of the rod you could pull or push the rod without puncturing your hand. And judging from the amount of room in the opening where those rods are sticking out of, the caster would have enough room to pivot quite a bit even with the rod attached.

There are dozens of pivoting casters that can be locked in similar ways, but have different types of levers, and many of those have a flat spot where such a rod could be bolted to. Sort of like making a little parking brake, one on each wheel (or at least the two that we can see in this photo).

I'm not saying that it is exactly what those rods are for, but if you think about it, it wouldn't be easy to use just a hand to lock the casters once the TARDIS was assembled and set in place.

I did wonder about locking castors when a box was complete, not sure whether to fit any or not yet, not that far through though.
