An answer to a problem
I have been thinking what to use for the gun on my Dalek, I have been looking at buying 3or 4 mm Nylon rods or metal rods also been worried about the weight of 3 or 4 mm rods, not even considered welding rods or wire clothes hangers, so i have decided to get cloths hangers, not the really thin easy to bend some a little more robust, upgrade the gun, then make my self a Hand Held Gun-stick. A few months ago I had a 3d printer for my birthday, so the plan is to 3d print the gun parts. your build plans are top notch.

If your having trouble finding something for the gun ribs. I have a link of my Dalek gunstick build on the first page of this thread, with information using bent knitting needles. Hope this helps.
