So! Here's a new preview of the revised 2018 Console Room, which goes step-by-step through all the new additions and modifications that have been made since Series 11 ended. I'll share the photos from the article in a second post shortly.

It also features quotes from Chris Chibnall, Nikki Wilson, and other members of the production team, providing insight into the thought process behind some of the changes.

Here's the photos from the article, in the order that they appear in there:

The vapour screens sound like an interesting and clever design. They've also removed the Gallifreyan lettering from the steps leading up to the consoles raised platform.

As much as I hate the crystals, the new roof section does give whole room an impressive feel with regard to size. It's just a shame the whole room is so bloody dark! :D

I am liking the addition of the steps, and the fact that they've covered the ceiling (in BTS images from series 11 you could see the studio through a gap in the black material they had there)

edit: Looking at the Radio Times article it says they've added: "printed cloths of the wall design in previously dark areas." So, almost like going right back to the 1963 design with its' photo-blowup walls!
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

Anyone else immediately reminded of seaQuest DSV's holographic professor AI... thing upon hearing about this? (Played by late Who alumnus and perennial sci-fi stalwart W. Morgan Sheppard, no less.)

It's still really hard to visualise the shape of the room due to how gloomy it is. The ceiling is now hemispherical and bulging down into the room, but how does it attach to the walls? Where are the steps leading to the inner door in relation to the main doors? Also, I'd feel 50% better about the room if they just got rid of those damn crystal talons. I actually quite like the infinity mirror/random hexagon/semi-transparent roundels as at least they're an attempt to do something new with an age-old concept rather than just ignoring it like Pickwoad attempted to do, but everything else about the room - from the cluttered and very plumbing-y plumbing of the console to the all-too-plasticky time rotor - just isn't my cup of tea.

Maybe there is no ceiling, maybe it floats...

I must admit that the console components are main thing that let's it down for me. It's too bare and what little there is just looks daft. The glued on individual toggle switches stick in my memory as exemplifying what seems like a lack of effort with it. I do like the molded panels but the pipes and taps on them don't do it for me... maybe if one or two panels had a complex network of them but otherwise i feel there needs to be more there for Jodie to work with.

Sorry if that's rambling but it's hard to put into words.
I speak to you from the final days of Gallifrey. I am the past you have forgotten. You are the future I will not live to see...

Thats not rambling, its part of the problem I have with the design as well. There's very little to work with, how do you input coordinates etc. All there seems to be is a big lever, that ridiculous egg-timer and the little spinny Police Box thing that I would be afraid would accidentally get broken off...

Love the new steps as well.

I know people who think that the Copper console is "too whimsical" but don't seem to have a problem with a console that dispenses biscuits and is controlled by egg timers ::)

Kingpin

This one is still far less whimsical than Matt's first Console.  There's no gramophone, pinball machine, mustard/ketchup dispensers, typewriter, desk bell...
