Thank You.  :D

Tomorrow I have a day off, I'll try to experiment some more. I'd like to adhere this to the back of a panel, so the length of the acrylic should act as a support rib.
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Do yourself a favor go to the Big Finish website and download the diaries of River Song volume four.
The 4th Doctor and River Song are a ship that I ship.

While I am waiting for a shipment of switches to come from China, I figured I'd do some more work on this console.

The beginning! Making a start on the main levers. I've decided to use laser cut perspex to make them...

The above post by Mark of the Rani was very inspirational.

OV: Warmcanofcoke, we of the Brickerbracks demand you divest your beloved time vehicle , of 85% of it mass and structure.

Coke: What? Not my beloved tar-...

OV: Coke, your home had attained so much mass it was about to reach gravitational collapse. This is but a warning. At present our designs do not encompass a singularity, in this corner of spacetime , not yet at any rate. Heed this warning well.

Coke: Exiled to one continuity? I must find a way to escape this planet. I am going to design the controls of the future. I will explore buttons, switches, knobs and what is the appropriate dial to button ratio? how much meter space should be given to a meter? all this and more I will explore as I try to make homemade time travel Tech.

OV: Make your junk useful or out it goes!

I sprayed the cover of the green lighting units a mirrored silver. So far it just looks grey. ...maybe I need to shake the can for a bit longer....

I made the next move on making the red door lever and it's sisters.

If you figure out a way to make chrome spraypaint look consistently chrome instead of just like plain silver, let us all know.  Maybe 10% of the time I'll get patches that are slightly shinier than silver spraypaint but I have no idea why that part turned out but the rest didn't.  Not that it matters, because pretty soon that will dull down to silver and eventually the whole thing just turns a dark grey as the paint wears off from handling.

I can only theorize the Mixture when exiting the can is not 100 percent uniform.  In some cases there's possibly more propellant, sometimes maybe a bit more paint.  In some situations maybe a particular spot get a bit more paint applied, maybe less.  Temperature and humidity can also affects results.  Really, it's a "crap shoot", quite random.  But I will note the following.  The MythBUsters empirically demonstrated one can "polish a turd" to a measurable value of shininess.  They employed a technique developed by Japanese artisans for polishing balls of mud.  Really, it boiled down to prolonged periods of manual "buffing".  With enough time and determination, I bet those "rattle can" painted surfaces could be polished to a near mirror finish.  If one can turn sh!t into Shinola, nearly anything is possible.

Sincerely,

Bill

I found that for my levers that silver rub n buff gave a superior finish to aluminum paint.    I would highly recommend it as you can buff it to a very nice shine.    You can also clear coat it afterwards if you want to seal it.
Just my two cents from a fellow console builder :)
