I've searched the net for a decent rendering of the St John's sign and found a small image only.  I would like to put one on mine when I get it built.  It is lust black and white right??

Just a quick update/coda regarding this issue: I managed to find a company to make me a metal St Johns sign for a more reasonable amount than the first mob quoted me ($300? Puh-LEEEEASE!), and then I bought two rare earth magnets from my local electronics shop ($14.95). They hold the sign nicely through the door panel (8mm ply), and I can remove it whenever I want - no drillholes!!

Yes indeed they are, except rare earth magnets love each other so much that if you come between them, you can wind up with a nasty blood blister. Like I did.

Oh dear, clearly I've strayed into the Carry On section of the board...

I can't believe I wasted my 100TH POST with that remark... Three stars at last!

Could be worse - if you were Hartnell it would only be five inches.

I'm really beginning to regret replying to the question now...!

So 200 posts doesn't get you any further, Mark?... it must be 250 then, or perhaps it's 500. (Come on, you've only got to think of another 300 things to say about police boxes...)

Hmm. Dunno about the films, but the according to Steven Hill's site, the original TV TARDIS had a third variation, which just said "St. John Ambulance".

Hmm... well, I'd quite like to pin down whether this simpler wording really was ever used on a prop or indeed a real box, as I never saw it used by St John Ambulance themselves till a few years ago.
