Are there any good colour reference pictures of the second Doctor's original red braces?  In particular, what colour are the motifs on them?  Most recreations have them as yellow, but the colour quality in the photographs is dubious and they might be green or white or . . . ?

I just looked through all my images of Patrick, and the only colour one I have that shows braces is this one.

It looks like a behind-the-scenes image, judging by the person on the right, so it might not be a b/w one that's been colourised, but I'm not sure.

They're Ben's legs (Michael Craze) - it's a reversed photo though.

This is the best one I've found of his braces (erm) - I've never seen it in better quality.

Edit to add: different colour quality and with alamy obscuring the shot

Here is that pic the correct way around :)IMG_20190627_130532.jpg

Many thanks for those photos.  They do illustrate the problem: depending on the colour adjustment, the motifs look green, or white, or yellow.  Maybe the clover leaf ones were a different colour?
Possibly Frazer Hines or Wendy Padbury or even Michael Troughton would remember; I don't "do" twitter, but if anyone is in touch with them, perhaps they could be asked?

The material used for the details appears to have a high sheen, almost foil-like surface; perhaps in the satin world.  The reflectivity is what makes their appearance so much more dependent on the lighting and surrounding environment for the look.  You can see this most clearly in the shot where the braces are twisted.  The highly diffuse cloth material for the strap maintains nearly uniform color/reflectance over its length whether facing the light or not, but the light-facing details are considerably brighter than their off-axis/twisted counterparts, which appear a sort of gray.  In fact, if I had to remake these details, they'd be either an extremely low-saturation gold or silver, and smooth, foil like material.

Thanks, Mike.  That's an interesting point which had never occurred to me.

I've been informed they are gold?

Thanks for everyone's input.  Following Mike's suggestion of reflective gold motifs, I went ahead with that and the colouring result seems to have come out pretty well:
