why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

The specific date for this one is Monday October 25th 1971. The BBC archive entry for the programme reads;

Quote25.10.71     Programme 13     DC53040
Director: David Langford; Film Director: Alan Russell
(887*) JASON'S LATEST ROSETTE / RECORD BREAKING LEAPFROG GIRLS / WILD WHITE CATTLE TK (Val) / PICASSO'S 90TH BIRTHDAY - THE STORY OF HIS LIFE AS AN ARTIST (with two security guards guarding a real Picasso) / FREDERICK - LOST CAT FOUND / CAT CLUB NEWS / PETER'S DOCTOR WHO PART INC CLIP FROM 'DR WHO' ex-27.11.65 / DALEKS IN STUDIO AND SET TO RETURN TO DR WHO.

The week prior to this, they'd completed production on Day of the Daleks with two studio days (Monday and Tuesday) for episodes Three and Four, so the news of the Daleks' return to Doctor Who was very much 'hot off the presses'!

This is a really good look at the prop in its season 8 condition, so I thought I'd see if I could get better quality grabs from the DVD source...

A little snippet for 'fact fans' :):

It's interesting to note that this episode of Blue Peter must mark the final appearance of the 'old girl' in that deliciously battered-looking grey-blue colour scheme.

A mere six-and-a-bit weeks later, she'd been repainted that mid-Prussian Blue for The Curse of Peladon which went before the cameras at Ealing on December 16th. The Tardis was to remain in the lighter colour for the remainder of the Pertwee era.
