why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

I believe that's actually the BBC owned Mark II as the lock is lower - I think Andrew Beech had bought the Mark I by this time.

Updated  ;)  :D

Man who knocked off that bit off the base?

It also looks like the phone panel was lost by this point, and they've tried to paint a new version directly onto the door.

It has a back door as well as a front?

Is it just me, or does it look like there's a lot more words on there than the (proper) PTO's usually have?
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

To my eye they've possibly used the All Calls wording, but there's no variation in text size and the layout is very close together?

A feature dating back to the first prop in 1963, to help enhance the idea the TARDIS's Police Box exterior is bigger on the inside.  A good few props over the years have either had another set of doors on the back of the Police Box, no rear wall at all (like the prop used in the 70s), or a removable rear wall, which most of the modern props have featured.

Normally you wouldn't see them as the rear doors would either be kept closed, out of shot, or hidden with a cloth... Sadly not everybody makes the effort to preserve the mystique. ::)

I always assumed the back panel was removable. It's just a suprise to see two doors and a lock!
This must be the backdoor the Dr and Jamie use in the Wheel in Space!

domvar

I believe it is one side the left hand door opens first and the other the right hand opens first, the phone panel was on velcro so could be put on ether side

brennan

The story about the recolourised Daemons!

Slide I took in 1992, at the BBC TV Centre in Wood Lane, London whilst Tomorrow's World demonstrated the Colourisation Process, for The Dæmons, that myself and Ralph Montagu were developing at the time.

That's a myth which seems to have come from Purpleblancmange - the 'pull to open' was hung on screws - again see the link above.

Nice picture - I see the lamp has been replaced by this stage in the box's history!

I love actual photographs, they have more details than a Screen Capture.
