They are good, bet they're even better 'in the flesh' so to speak.

Any likely hood of a mail order item, no copyright issues?

hoho I thought this might come up...!   ;)

Certainly not at the moment I'm afraid, Mark. I've got another 32 to cast up yet for my own box first plus I would also like to get my box up and constructed in our new garden. Finding time to do all this as well as all the  many DIY projects being found for me on our new house is going to be quite challenging!
Once things have quietened down a bit then this is certainly a possibility.

They look good but did they end up slightly smaller than the originals? This is something that I've found when casting with latex, but there may be a way round it.

Yeah, don't cast from Latex moulds.  ;)

Silicone is expensive, VTR Rubber is affordable... thing is, if you use a cheaper method and keep the original former safe, you can always go back and create new moulds if the first moulds perish or go off.

One thing we used to do with latex moulds was to leave a moist rag inside it, that does help to extend the life and also helps to prevent shrinkage.  That said, if you don't change the rag frequently, it can all go a bit smelly.

Thanks for the tips.

Yep there is a bit of shrinkage but not much yet. Better get casting sharpish!

Hi, nice bit of casting there. I always find clear resin stays a bit sticky so I'm very impressed by your results.

For my TARDIS the whole window was cast as one piece, with fibre glass tissue behind the gel coat layer. I didn't want the windows to be see through so that wasn't a problem. They've been out in the garden on the old girl for a few years now and haven't cracked or anything.

If i knew how to post a pic on here I would

I'd like to see this as I wondered about casting windows all in one, in clear resin, and then painting the glazing bars (off-)white.

Someone told me how to put pictures here, and try as I might to do it by any other method I can't so here's the trick: set up an account with photobucket.com, put your picture there, then copy the image information from the 'Img' field below the picture and paste it in the message window here in Rebuilders.

(Then just reverse the polarity of the neutron flow.)

You may find this helpful, also.

FAQ item on including images

Proboards doesn't generally host images, so most people seem to be using Photobucket.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully this should work.

Here then is my TARDIS, she's mainly GRP. I took the photos half an hour ago and it's horribly grey and drizzley out there.

And here are the one piece cast windows.

Now that is a cracking job those windows look great.

Is your TARDIS partially or fully home made? It looks fantastic.

Thanks.

I actually comissioned someone to build it for me but he only made half of it before giving up (after I'd paid him all the money!) so I've been finishing it off myself. You can see that it still needs the top pieces on the corner posts.

The windows do work well as one piece though, it meant less sealing had to be done. There's so many places water can get into a police box.

LOVE IT!

Excellent looking build. I'm green right now.

That looks brilliant, Meantime..! I'm having mine built by someone as well - I hope he doesn't run off half way through  too!  :o
Anyway, it looks like you're doing an excellent job of finishing it off. Looks very at home in the garden there - do you plan to use it as a shed or as storage or whatever? Is it weathering well?

I'm still agonising over whether to texture mine; looking at yours I really like the smooth matt finish, just as much as the textured. Decisions eh!

cheers

To Dematerialiser:

So long as the person making yours isn't better known for building daleks then I think you'll be ok.

As for weathering, it hasn't changed since it was put outside, about 6 years ago. I wondered about texturing as well but found that I was more than happy with giving it a good dirty down with a paint effect instead. I do't like flat paint jobs, I like the TARDIS to look as though its been somewhere, if you know what I mean.

And yes, its a shed, but next year I want to put a row of roundels up one interior wall.

Wow, what a superb TARDIS, meantimebob. The windows look great - in fact the whole thing looks great. I like the smooth finish too, a lovely paint job.
How is such a large thing built in GRP? I've no idea how it would be constructed.

I'd love to look out into my garden and see that, especially on a grey and drizzly day...
