Based on the device found in the pocket of one of Pertwee's costumes but possibly never seen on screen. I bulked it up a bit.

I cobbled it together from bits and pieces.

Wired for sound without losing the telescopic neck.

Is there any chance of seeing the individual components & seeing how it's put together please?

Curious as to how you get the telescopic top to extend, I would think stepped drilled with a nut on the end?

Unfortunately it won't come apart that easily but the body is made of two parts - the bottom to the grooved bits being one and then from there up to, but not including, the narrowest part being another. piece The middle section just fits into the bottom and is held in by some super glue.

The telescopic section comes from an aerial type thing with a magnet on the end for picking up things. This fits into the top of the mid section but was cut down to size somewhat to leave the bottom section free for electronics.

I can't be very helpful about the emitter as they were just parts from my bits box that happened to go together.

Sorry I couldn't dismantle it but I hope that explanation is of some use.

Experimenting with the early Pertwee style colours.

HELP NEEDED

I did the Pertwee colours using electrical tape because I can't paint well but after a while the tape just slides about when touched.

Does anyone know of some other material I could use instead? Something that sticks fast and comes in the required colours.

I'd say go with your tape method, but just use it to mask your painting.

Be sure to use a self-etching primer first, and give the metal a little tooth with some 150-grit sandpaper.

I'm really not sure about paint but out of interest how do you mask bits you've already painted without harming that paint? I just make things, I've never been taught any of it so there are still quite a few areas where I haven't a clue lol.

I think another reason for the tape is it's less of a commitment. If I want to change the look it's very easy but I didn't account for the tape suddenly losing its grip. If anything I thought that with time it might get more firm as its stickiness dries.

I got nothing, as far as tape.  It seems like Michael's or Hobby Lobby or something like that would have something and I can make my brain remember even seeing something for this kind of purpose.  But I can't find anything on Google.  So maybe not. 

As to paint and masking, I'm working on a van right now that has lots of masking and I have had tape pull up paint, but not often and usually if I made some mistake in surface prep or tape application.  Sanding with 400 grit should give you texture for paint to adhere to but be smooth enough to not show sanding marks through the paint.  Then you thoroughly clean the surface with wax and grease remover, mask it and wipe with a tack cloth.  Doing all those steps should give your paint the best chance to stick.  Then if you use one of those fancy blue masking tapes, they're designed to mask cleanly and pull up without marring the surface beneath.  There was some...3M? stuff I got accidentally--a lot thinner and with less texture than usual masking tape--and with orange printing on the surface of the tape.  I was very suspicious of the stuff but didn't want to run back to the store.  It worked very VERY well.  Now I wish I'd used it for the whole job.

So, I decided to go with paint - the red bit is done and the black bits on the handle.

It looks quite good without the white stripe and the spiral section might be alright left as tape as it doesn't really get handled.

I've also made another emitter, they're fairly interchangeable.
