Yeah, that's what i did.
I think if you're doing a complete replica, then it's a different story. However, my build is a kind of hybrid. I'm OK if i get as close to some designs as possible with the time and budget that i have. Besides, everything can be covered with paint! It's all about the BLUE.

Well that's pretty much what the BBC has always done.  After the first season of the original series, they just ginned up a lamp (don't know if they lost or broke the original).  This got grottier and grottier over the life of the prop.  The next prop had a rotating blue police car light on a few occasions.  And of course for the relaunch of the series in 2005, they just stuck a random garden lantern on the roof.

The good thing about the lamp is that it's probably the easiest thing to change.  Lord knows I went through a number of iterations.  So if you decide you don't like it, you can just pop it off and stick a different one on.

It's been "all about time" today, i picked up my vinyl Police Box stickers from a small graphics business literally a couple of streets away. The made to measure perspex arrived and i started tinkering around with my top light.
After searching for a company to print my top sign stickers i found a great Husband & Wife team (Phil & Vicki) at www.pvgraphics.com i used the Newbery (1976) PDF (pepsiman98) and it worked out fantastically well wit the size that i was going for.
I went to www.perspexsheet.uk and order 2 3mm frosted white perspex lengths cut to my measurements. I also ordered 2 2mm clear perspex lengths cut to the same measurements. I have stuck the vinyl sticker to the frosted white lengths, and i have a clear piece to go on the top, sandwiching the sticker in between. I will seal around the outsides of the perspex to stop the elements from sneaking in!

The light is a different story.
I've taken the lantern apart, and filled in any extra holes created by step 1.
The first coat of Hamerite 'Hammered Blue' paint has been done, the lantern is brass, not easy to cover with first coat.
Probably going to take a couple of coats.

Good work!

I'm loving that shade of blue.

Thanks, it's called Hammered Blue from Hammerite.

Incidentally, "Hammered Blue" would be a good name for a cocktail.

This website is HUGE!  If you go to the home page and scroll down, you'll find a 'Tardis Reference' section and also a 'Tardis Workshop' section.     If you have a good rummage around those areas you'll find lots of information, including plans for various boxes.   And the 'Build Diaries' section contains other people's builds.    And you can start your own thread too.

Hope this helps.

Well, it's been a while. 3 years to be exact. A lot has gone on in the world, and continues to do so. Alas my Tardis is still standing, I've done a little maintenance on the roof. However, there has been No repainting, No filling, No replacement of bulbs or glass/perspex So I am still very happy with my build.
So here are a couple of photo's from when I completed my build. Inside is just a torch to fill the Tardis with light so I could see the effect of the windows and signs.Tardis - night 2019b.JPGTardis - night 2019a.jpg

If you take a look at at the start of my build journey, you'll see the sketch I did of what I wanted to acheive.
I don't think I did too badly...
So this photo was a year later, May 2021.Tardis - May 2021.jpg

...another year later, July 2022.
I did have some issues with a leaky roof, however with a sheet of blue tarpaulin (almost identical in colour to the IRIS blue Cuprinol I used), I covered the entire roof, stapled it down and used some fake green ivy to cover all the folds and staples. This has so far blended in nicely with the actual "mile a minute" vine I have growing.
I still haven't had to re-paint my Tardis. It's been 3 years now, and it hasn't moved, and hasn't faded in colour.
I combatted the light situation by using solar panel garden lights. They weren't cheap! But they are good.
The lights go around my garden fence and into the Tardis, I used a whole set inside. And in the evening... I thNo message is associated with this attachment.Tardis Garden_2022b.jpgTardis Garden_2022a (2).jpgink it looks great!

I love it!

I think it looks great covered with that greenery.
Looks like the TARDIS has been lurking in your garden for ages & become overgrown.

Looks brilliant!

Cheers,

Russell

Thanks Russell,
That was the exact look I was going for all along. It's quite big for a garden ornament.
But it certainly is a talking point!
