This control file went to fabrication today!

Wow! They fabricated that quickly!

Oh, wait... ;)

Is that an internal door handle you've created?

It does remind me of one.

One of the places I visit on an almost daily basis through work has this type of door handle and I keep dropping massive hints I would like a couple if they become spare.

I'll get you a picture if it helps.

Yep, the police box doors need a handle to open from the inside, and this seemed apropos!

@scarf :)  I don't really need to render my files beforehand, it just makes me feel better.

Mark, thank you - we can never have too many references or measurements.  I think I've got it (let's hope so!), but of course I'd welcome any measurements or shots!

One of the cupboard doors in the Gents toilets at the BFI Southbank has these handles fitted as well. It's funny the things you notice, isn't it...

This is blue, light blue, light gray, dark purple, green, white... just tons of shades, mostly rubbed on with a mostly-dry paper towel, then rubbed off and applied again. This isn't right, yet, but it'll be something in this vein; always is.

By the way, this is hella fun; I recommend it.

Do you go straight from the pallete or mix up a wash?
And if you do mix up a wash what consistency? Soup or sauce?  Lol ive alot to learn

In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

It just occurred to me that my height dimension for the interior control panel was arbitrary - I had envisioned it as 4 x 6, but there's no reason it isn't 4 x X, which would give me more room to space things out (better for the aesthetic) AND allow me to put my favorite potentiometer handle on it - this one:

I found this shot on the board because I figured, "There's no way Tony hasn't drawn this thing, and accurately, somewhere." And it seems I almost found it.  I searched some more but couldn't find it.  Does this exist?  I would love to have a couple made!!

I have copies I can send you.  Tony sent me the files needed for my console and I hade them printed on shapeways.   I'll email them over

Can anybody confirm this for me? Tony?

This is the Fresnel lamp housing assembly that nobody wants to build.

FRESNEL_LAMP_ASSEMBLY.jpg

Seriously, it's been rejected by 5 machine shops so far, with reasons from, "We don't do one-offs," to, "We can't do this."  Part of it is that it's 304 or 316 stainless steel.  Beyond that, I guess it's just a pain.

The top cap has some inset ridges to cradle the lens - there's a small ridge on the baseplate to stabilize the lens as well.  I don't see these on the original, but they're invisible in situ, and help make it weathertight and mechanically sound.

1/4" bolts pass through 3/8" sleeves, down through the baseplate, and through slots in the roof center section (pictured here as a square block).

There is a final mount plate inside the roof which holds the bulb itself, and where the bolts are secured with washers and nuts.

The roof slots allow the lamp to be rotated into various positions as desired.

Now all I gotta do is get somebody to build it!

I feel your pain man,  I know exactly what that's like.

For your Fresnel lens do you have one sourced already? If so..where did you get it? It seems good heavy duty old stock lenses are like hens teeth now a days. I am always on the look out for a 2nd one.

We're going to do the countersink holes and screws after the fact just to allow for a little leeway or unforseen things at installation/build.

I'll have 8 please :D

It's incredibly specific such that I have zero hope I'll find one, and have resigned to having it made.  If you think getting stainless steel made is hard, try custom optical glass.  Actually, try ANY custom glass - the pebbled window panes have been laughed at for weeks as some sort of impossibility.  I tend to feel about the word "impossible" the same way I feel about child molesters, so we'll just see about that.  But for now, I think the first version of the Fresnel lens, being so specific, will end up being acrylic until such time as I can more successfully bend others to my will.

Tell ya what: When I get the bill for one I'll send it over and see how you feel then. :)

I've started drinking really early these days. :)

It seems Karst has beaten me to it.  :) I hope the diagrams are of assistance!
