I had to split this one up into three posts as it's the motherload of Console reference.

So it looks like one of the angled fresnelly-infinity hex things has been moved onto the console, frame and all. Presumably it's meant to look like a screen (better than projecting onto the rough, pitted metal arms) but it's angled in a user-unfriendly downward direction.

And they've started adding bits and bobs to the Console to use as controls, which was my largest complaint about the whole set. So I'm happy.

These switches are not even connected to anything. The terminals are clearly visible.
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

I'm not a fan of this console (the amber glow is about all I like), but to be fair, most of the controls on the Classic consoles, and even some of the earlier New Series consoles, weren't connected to anything. They all just had a few wired up to turn on lights, and maybe start the central column doing something, but especially with the Brachacki and Sharp consoles (and the first Ed Thomas console from 2005-2009) had very little in the way of actual working controls (especially the 2005 console - which is tied with the Brachacki for my favorite). Still, it gives the actors something to play with that "looks" like it does something.

Besides... It's magic! Just like those removable bubble globes on the 2005 console. It all works through Time Lord-TARDIS telepathy... which could explain how the same control can be used for multiple functions... except the Mat/Demat Lever; they're hardwired... unless you're the 3rd Doctor and "You've been fiddling with it, haven't you?"... then even when it comes to the Mat/Demat Lever all bets are off! ;) :D ;D

So, switches not connected to anything? Nothing new. Besides, think of it like those extra circuit breakers in your house's mains power panels; they're there for future expansion. You need those newly-added lights to come on? Well, you're in luck... we just happen to have this bank of switches not connected to anything so far, so... (Take it from there, props and set tech guys and make it work! :))

And that's the beauty of Timelord technology!!! The TARDIS just knows what you want the action to be when you flip the switch.

I guess it must be Bluetooth tech. So the Doctor can unclip it from he console and use it remotely.

I was just saying it spoiled the illusion for me at the time - but you guys mended it for me.

Cheers  ;)
