More bits made   ;D
Not sure if ill be able to get many more bits now for a while as its been quite busy at work, if thats the case then i was thinking of sending the files off to someone to make the parts externally, dont really want to do that though as I'd like to see them being made.

Had to file some bits to make them fit, doesnt affect the look though

Fitted one of the rods from the toy as well, looks nice.20180525_082026.jpg
Like i say, might be a while before more bits are made but I'll get there   :D

Loosely interpreted... don't rush into having the parts made externally, Bren. The ones you've had made in-house look spectacular, and it's because they've been made under your supervision/approval. And it's not costing you anything. You could pay good money to have a part made elsewhere, but then receive something that's so far off the mark that it's unusable.

It's always easy to get caught up in something when it's going swiftly and the results are amazing (and your results so far are absosmurfly amazing!), such that when things hit a snag that slows things down, or brings them to a stop (heavy "real" workload), most of us eagerly look for an alternative just to keep things moving at that swift pace.

Sometimes the eagerness can get the better of us, so when things do hit a snag, there's nothing wrong with just stepping aside, letting the snag run its course, and then when the time is freed up once again, you can resume the project and do it to your exacting specs. (And if this happens where you don't have to pay to get it done, all the more better to wait it out. :))

Believe me, we're more than happy to wait it out with you so your build goes the way you want it - not the way someone at an obscure machine shop wants it because he thinks it's easier for him, and thinks "It'll be just fine like this"... when it may not be. I know you've had a few months' delay already (March to May), but it's like we say: we never put a time limit on posting updates, or when someone should work on their build (or parts thereof).

Don't rush it. If you can wait for the equipment availability in-house, then we can wait for your next update.

Dino.

Well... its been a while since an update hasn't it. But I've been able to get some more bits made, I've also made a good few bits on the lathe at home.

These are the new parts i got made at work, the main body and the brass core that everything else slides onto.

They screw together like so then the rest of the bits i made slide on to it20181125_010047.jpg

These are the parts I've made by hand, I've re done the part with the 8 slots in as I've updated the CAD model since which makes the ones i made before wrong, im going to use my grandads mill and have it on a dividing head to cut the slots in it which i hope to do soon.20181125_010113.jpg
But once they're all on the main body it looks something like this   ;D20181125_010235.jpg
The parts just under the emitter are the plastic ones as i haven't had them made yet.

Wow! I don't know how I missed this build. But it looks amazing.  I've worked a bit on one of these for myself, and it's a tough build.  You're knocking it out of the park!

Blimey, its been over a year since the last update on this little project, well i can safely say that this project is successfully finished!
Made completely out of metal, with working lights and sounds.
I finished up the cad model and managed to get the rest of the parts made.
It feels so nice to hold, its got a real proper weight to it as opposed to the plastic toy.

There are a few design changes i need to make to improve it but that comes with any project im sure we all know  ;)
I need to extend the clear rods so that theyre closer to the leds which will make them brighter and i need to figure out a good place for a speaker hole as its too quiet at the moment.
Heres some photos from before i painted it, its quite nice to see.

Ill try and post some more about it when i can upload a video of the lights soon!  ;D20191128_075106.jpg

This used to be my least favourite model (until the JW came along) but I love all the beautifully machined metal on here. Excellent replica  :)

Awww I loved this model although it is a bit big. I recently did a more pocket friendly custom but still haven't got around to posting.

This replica is amazing. I doubt I'd be able to tell it apart from the prop if they were placed in front of me.

A superior effort with a superior outcome.  A labor of love for sure with the timeframe, but worth every hour you put into it.  Be proud.......we are!
