This sonic came about when the gentleman who runs Custom Sonics came for a visit, had an unexpected trip to Castleton, somewhere I'd never been despite not being too far away. Anyway, he'd had a clear out of the workshop and very kindly gave me a bag of not quite finished sonic parts and despite not having his skill I managed to put a few together into this.

I am so sleep deprived I just cannot take a good picture, and I got PVA from a non-Doctor Who project on my backdrop. These were the best pics I managed. I really like this one but seeing the photos it looks incomplete in a way it doesn't up-close lol.

And you can reuse the design in a slightly larger size as a lightsaber for Star Wars people! ;)

CH, say what you like about your photos, but I think they're perfect! The sonic is clear, not blurry, and that's the important bit. And it's an amazing sonic for being bodged together from bits of other sonics. It's a great design. (BBC take note if you ever decide to replace the Doctor's sonic at some point. ;) ;D)

So does this sonic have sound as well, or just the lighted emitter crystal?

Thank you both but I'm not sure anything of mine is TV worthy.

It has 8 sound effects galacticprobe and one more piece to be added, hopefully on Monday. As a Sheffileder it's a shame it isn't made of local steel but it would weigh a ton lol.

Now it looks more finished.

Experimenting with some colour. I think the blue works well with the brass and breaks up the huge mass of aluminium. I prefer to use electrical tape to do this sort of thing, easy to apply, easy to remove if it doesn't look right and doesn't chip or scratch like paint. A similarly dark shade of purple might be worth a go but it's not a common tape colour.

The blue does work very nicely.  If I'd have done it, I might have tried some kind of black leather in those spaces.  Or rubber.  You might be able to find a bicycle inner tube that you could cut cross-sections of to fit over those segments.  But I don't think that would be as nice and black and smooth as I'd like.

I see what you mean, black would probably look more businesslike too but I prefer the subtle splash of colour.

A few extra pics of the finer details -

This brass thingy was added to fill an existing hole in the part I used.

A more professional looking button.

An end not as planned but more in keeping with the overall look.

Why does my hand look so chubby lol?

Now all you need to do is Photoshop a light beam, & you have yourself a light saber.   ;D

Oh don't, I've only just decided it's really finished lmao.

I'm quite proud it was the top featured article on DW Amino last night GMT.

It's a really wonderful build.  Only in the interest of OCD, must I comment that you didn't necessarily need to add the brass dingus to hide a hole.  The Tom Baker sonic had a couple holes and things and even a big cutout, IIRC, that let you see the spring inside the base.  But it looks neat either way and you've made some wonderful choices.

Heh.  I remember reading "Starlog" magazine in Olden Dayes and they had a comics section.  That would be a classic "Starlog" cartoon:  The Doctor says "No problem, I'll just get out the trusty sonic screwdriver" and realizes it's a lightsaber when he turns it on.  "I've got to start organizing these things better."

It's the guard on the emitter gives it the lightsaber look but without that it looks like a steampunk wand.

I know what you mean about the hole but it just looked to me as though something had broken off or got lost.
