Looks quite "period" Brachaki, with the exception of the lintel sign. Any ideas where this box comes from?

I think it IS the Brachacki with different (possibly Newberry) signs. The old ones would be.....somewhere else, I'd hazard a guess. Probably a refurb or something.

Well, if this really was Christmas 1974, then this would be well before the Newbery prop was built. Hell, Tom Baker hadn't even officially started his run as the Doctor yet.

Quite interesting indeed. Maybe Tony Farrell could shed some light on this?

But what's interesting is, these do LOOK like the Newbury signs, with the bold font and general hand painted look.

The most interesting thing is the mag cost only 13p  :o!!!!!

Talk about galloping inflation!!!

Yep, it is genuine - as a teenager, I had a copy and 13 "new pence" was indeed the cover price!

The actual photo hails from The Invasion of the Dinosaurs (note Jon's new blue velvet jacket - the only time he wore it) and - by coincidence - this story marks one of the periodic repaints that the Brachacki prop received. Whilst the front sign-box's lettering has indeed been altered by the publishers of the magazine/comic, the brightness of the side sign-box's lettering is genuine as these instructions to the prop repairers/painters testify:

(It's interesting to also note the instruction to replace the last remaining original window 'panes' that had survived from the 1966 rebuild of the Tardis.)

Thanks for sharing Steve - this brought back memories!

Cheers Tony

I thought the front sign had been touched up by Polystyle.

I was guessing this was around Invasion of the Dinosaurs, as it looks like it was taken in the classroom set.

Be lovely if the original picture could be found...

Well, I can't help with the original picture but, here is a better copy:

(For fact fans, it was published in June 1974 - so, just in time for the summer holidays - was 48 pages and was the second of three such specials.)

What a great shot.

It would be wonderful if the high quality original turned up.

They can't have touched the back doors as they're in a pretty bad way judging from photographs of Planet of the Spiders.

Polystyle took a number of photos during the making of Invasion of the Dinosaurs, several specially posed ones were used in a text story called Signal SOS that featured in the 1974 TV Comic Holiday Special.

Sadly none of The TARDIS though!
