Some great new photos of the TARDIS from The Abominable Snowmen found on Twitter, showing more of the front of the prop than I've seen before...

Look at the bottom of the doors...

Looks to me like they're pointing outwards.

Is the old "season 5 phone panel on the right hand door" actually the rear of the box???

Not too sure about that. Looking at other pictures from the set, the cloverleaf doorstops are still there on the front - seems to me like the bottom of the door is just bent outwards a bit.

Yes, here's the rear of the prop showing the back doors with the 'Toymaker' door knobs still present...

Just quickly adding a little more to this... In "Enemy Of The World", the Phone Panel was still on the right-hand door, and those doors opened inward. So I think Season 5 just had the Phone Panel put on the wrong door. Why they didn't correct that after noticing it, I don't know (unless their eyes were stankier than my stanky old wizzard eyes... which seem to be getting stankier with age... and the error never occurred to them).

Are there any pictures available of the rear of the prop taken before the 1966 refit? There's the one from the recording of the pilot episode that was taken from the front that has both doors open; however I can't recall ever seeing a picture of the outside of the rear elevation...

There may well be one that I've previously commented on; however i'm getting old now. Short term memories always the first to go...

ETA - I just remembered that there's that shot taken during the studio filming of Dalek Invasion of Earth, that shows the prop's rear face with all the rubble thats covering it....

Steve, you can also see the open rear doors of the Tardis through the windows in the shot from The Chase. There's also the one from The Web Planet with the lamp's cable running down the side of the rear doors. Also there's the overhead shot from The Savages with the 1:3 scale model of the Tardis in the background....... 

That's about it for the original Tardis but we do, in fact, we have loads of shots of the altered Brachacki Tardis which show that the rear doors always opened outwards (e.g., The Spearhead from Space, The Planet of the Spiders). The only exception appears to be The Seeds of Doom - her final appearance - when the rear doors seem to have been rehung to open inwards.

(And, in answer to your DM, yes - I am still alive! )
