I was having a little google (For Daleks actually) and came across this, sorry it's watermarked and therefore copyrighted, but I'm sure no one will mind. Is it familiar?

6.  Isn't she lovely? Nice and fat!

Are you a chubby TARDIS chaser, a chubby police box chaser or just a chubby chaser lol?

I love this prop, it's great to see a TARDIS that actually looks like a real metbox.
I speak to you from the final days of Gallifrey. I am the past you have forgotten. You are the future I will not live to see...

I don't think I've ever seen a pic of the Cushing box with this amount of detail before. Brilliant find!  :D

why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Some brilliant additions here, great to see the coloured high-res image up here!
Peter Cushing + the McGann console room = recipe for success!

One thing that bothers me about the DW movies & the series. Which came first? Considering the Tardis console, or lack of in the movies. Were they working on the idea of the console & haven't come up with something definite between the movies & series. Were both movie & series being made at the same time? Was the series made first & the movie people not informed the series control room looked better? Were the movie people experimenting on control rooms?
I'm getting a headache with all this chicken & egg stuff. Someone please, tell me the answer before my my brain blows up like a Dalek in "The power of the Daleks". XP

What impresses me most is that backdrop painting of London.  The thing has to be 20 feet tall at the very least!  I suspect if examined in closeup, the details would be almost "impressionistic".  But filmed at the correct distance and lighting, the image is almost photographic.

Funny, I'm reminded of those recent "behind the scenes" clips for "The Mandalorian" in which they use video backdrops of similar scale.  Even just 20 years ago, who would have imagined we would, or even could use just technology for genre entertainment, let alone 55+ plus year when this movie was produced!

Sincerely,

Bill

The movies were released in 1965 and 1966.

I couldn't say when the idea first came up but the tv show had certainly been running for 18 months when they started shooting...

From Wikipedia:
QuoteAmicus bought an option to make the story and two sequels from Terry Nation and the BBC for £500.[2] Principal photography commenced at Shepperton Studios, England in April 1965 and took six weeks. The film was produced on a budget of £180,000.
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.
