Not sure where to put this...

Today I was mostly at Matt Irvine's SmallSpace model exhibition in Hanslope*, and saw these little beauties...


















Talk about attention to detail. The amount of Space:1999 Eagle transporter kit-bashed parts used as greablelies on the surface of the Think-Tank space station - all of which would have been available for use in 1979




*Actually I was mostly sat on the M25 trying to make my way home, but you know what I mean...

Lovely to see Jonathan/Markofrani's Newbery Tardis 'up close and personal' - it really is a thing of beauty.

Nice also to see Professor Chronotis' door however, for me, it's equally interesting to know that the space-station actually contains parts from the model kits of Space 1999's "Eagle" transporters - the internal cockpit door is clearly visible as are the octagonal 'engine blocks' as well as the landing pads (feet)!!

Good innit. I could appreciate the attention to detail, especially considering there was all sorts of other spaceship props on display from Blakes 7, built around the same time, that are full of conventional items from the same period, not just kits, but also things like BIC razor handles, the Andromedan spaceship made from two hairdryer handles (and R2D2 domes...)  that sort of thing

They were both pretty busy so I didn't really get much of a chance; however I had a very nice chat with Roger Murray-Leach

I thought this when I saw the original miniature but the windscreen of Skagra's ship really throws the scale... that or he loves a good view.

I noticed that almost immediately. The first things to catch my eye were the 'engine blocks'. Then as I looked closer I noticed the other items you mentioned, Tony. I also spotted the "undercarriage" of the passenger module (mounted here, upturned) on the tops of those landing bay(?) extensions. I also noticed some of the Eagle's main engine exhaust nozzles; they're mounted below the square piece with the red rectangles on it (on the side of the main station body). The nozzles are mounted to look like cones. At this scale my guess would be the 22-inch Eagle model. (This kit is still available from Round 2 Models, or last I heard. I do know it was readily available at late as the end of 2016, so those parts could be from that kit - less scratch building needed there.)

I'm sure if we really forensically examined this model we'd also find (scratch-built?) bits of Moonbase Alpha on it as well (and parts of the Geminii capsule model as both Eagle and Alpha were highly greebled with parts from that kit). The round tubular connectors from the main ring to the central hexagon could be parts of an Apollo Saturn V kit; they have the right look.

I saw what looked like the "tree" (runners) that model parts are mounted on when in a kit; that's on the deck of the landing bay extensions. There are more greebles inside those openings, mounted along the walls, but it's too dark inside to make out what those are. This really shows the high level of craftsmanship that went into replicating this model: all that detail that might not get seen, but it's in there probably because it was like that on the original. Whoever built that one deserves a standing ovation.
