Crispin,

You would not believe the sights that can be seen at conventions...

Everytime I open the homepage there's this picture staring at me along the "New Pictures" bar.

No offense Russ, but you look like my worst possible nightmare...  ;D

russellsuthern

Methinks he doth protest too much....

(Go on, admit it, Steve, you've secretly got that picture as your screensaver, haven't you...?!!! ;))

LOL!
You can use the board promote/demote feature to hide those boards from the recent posts and pictures. You can still view the boards and still see when things are new there, but they'll be less in your face.

Personally I'm rather enjoying these. :) But we're all different.

Actually you're not far wrong...

This has been my desktop for about the last 8 years:

(OK. I've always had a thing for Leela... Louise Jameson was the reason why at a very early age I knew which way my sexuality was going to go... ;) )

On that note, Steve, from what I've read where articles of the time have been quoted, so did most of the dads!

Probably slitting my own throat here (or asking to have it slit), but dare I mention Sailor Moon? (Well, you did mention schoolgirl outfits, and as The Evil One can attest to - being an English teacher in Japan - those "sailor" outfits are indeed what the girls wear to school... albeit with much longer hemlines to their skirts than what we're led to believe in the animes.)

Ok, so which one is you?   ;D

I just had a weird Idea.

I was thinking to myself, "Now all you need is some Janus thorns & a blow gun," then it hit me, foam dart Janus thorns with suction darts, or Velcro darts, like Nerf darts.

You would be like, "You don't like my costume, POOSH!", (i don't know the sound of a blow dart), & the Velcro dart sticks to the target's clothes.

Nothing against Russell and his great work (on hard prop replicas, and soft prop: i.e. costumes), but, lantern... when was the last time you had your eyes checked? ;) :) :D ;D

You just have to be very careful with things like this. Not everyone has that cosplayer sense of humor. I've seen people around where I live get hit with fines because a neighbor's beach ball accidentally hit them in the back. Yeah... a beach ball... from someone you've been living next door to for years.

Now imagine blowing even a Nerf dart (or a bit of pillow foam) at a stranger at a convention. Depending on who you're dealing with, you could find yourself in cuffs and being hauled off to the nearest constabulary (in Leela garb) because that stranger is filing charges against you for assault with a weapon. (Yes... even nothing but foam. I've seen neighbors get into shouting matches just because their kids were using pool foam noodles for a lightsaber battle: "You let your kid beat on my kid?!" "No... they're playing 'Star Wars' lightsabers." "So you're saying 'yes' to letting your kid beat on mine!" "Well yours was beating on mine, too!" - and it all goes downhill from there.)

It's not like it used to be in the old days.

Interesting points guys.
I have been studying Romanas outfits and when most people cosplay her they opt for quite short skirts when doing city of death but actually her
skirt was quite demure.. Well below the knee  So I actually like Romanas wardrobe for being a touch saucy but actually quite demure.
Again we get a real change from Leela,  just as Leela was a real change from Sarah Jane.

Cosplay rules have tightened up a lot and while I miss the good old days where things were a bit more freestyle, I do think most of the restrictions are there for a good reason to help protect people. Of course I have to leave my real swords at home and use rubber equivalents!!

Probably for the best...

Cheers!!

BTW.. I feel like such a globe trotter.. . I was in Dublin last week and am teaching a training camp in Spain this week!! Happy days!! Not met any Sontarans yet.....

As the saying goes, if there is a rule there, or a note of warning, it's because someone did something that was, "Well... it seemed like a good idea at the time... but, erm..." and a rule or warning had to be instated.

It's not really the Sontarans you have to watch out for, Russ; it's those pesky Androgums! (They'll literally eat anyone! :o) ;D

Actually we just had dinner last night and judging by how much they ate I think some of my students may well be androgums...
:)

I think a Lakertyan or an Argolin would be good next, much fun with wigs and chill outfits for the summer.
I speak to you from the final days of Gallifrey. I am the past you have forgotten. You are the future I will not live to see...
